What the Jewellery You Gift for Valentine’s Day Says

So here we are, with yet another Valentine’s Day just around the corner. You’re probably reading this and feeling that uncomfortable little niggle somewhere in your stomach, The one that says, “I forgot something, but I can’t quite remember what it is…” Well, it’s probably a Valentine’s gift! If your partner is the type that loves something sparkly and cute, jewellery is the way to go. You have to consider what the kind of jewellery you’ve gifting really says about your relationship and the person you’re gifting it to! Do you know what their birthstone is? Are you sure they prefer silver to gold? Do you know what the cut of that ring was originally supposed to mean? If you dont do your research and think carefully before spending your hard-earned cash on the wrong sort of jewellery, you might come short on the most romantic day of the year.

There are different types of women’s jewellery, men’s jewellery, or unisex gifts you could get your partner for Valentine’s Day; let’s look at a few of them now.

The “Quick Fix”

Let’s cover this one first because this is the one you DON’T want to be gifting. We know that life is busy and people forget things from time to time, even important things. But take it from us, it’s better to hand over a considerate and thoughtful gift late than a quick fix one on time. A quick-fix piece of jewellery is one that the recipient can tell was purchased in a hurry. The price tag may still be on the box or, worse, the piece itself. The piece is probably generic and not suited to their particular taste. Don’t be the Quick Fix gifter! We know it’s cheesy, and it may get you into a little trouble today; still, it’s better to present your beloved with an IOU and be honest about your busy schedule keeping you from selecting the perfect gift rather than choosing hastily and getting something that sends the wrong message entirely.

The “New Love”

You’re besotted with each other; that much is clear to everyone you encounter. It’s your first Valentine’s Day together, and you want to make the right impression on your true love, so you’ll need to choose something spectacular. Since your love is newly minted, you may think you know the other person inside out, but chances are there are a lot of aspects of their personality and things that they like or dislike that you just haven’t seen yet. Talk to their best friend, sibling or mother if you want to get it right and send the right message. One of these people will have the down low on what your amore likes best and what they’ll be most overjoyed to receive. Steer clear of necklaces with each other’s names on the pendants…remember, it’s early days yet!

Stones and metal: Classic gold is a safe bet (unless they only wear silver jewellery; take note!), with their birthstone included to jazz the piece up a little.

The “Strange and Unusual”

If your partner has eclectic or artistic taste, the same old run-of-the-mill rings and pendants won’t do it for them. Finding the perfect piece for a person with unusual tastes will probably take more research. Still, the happiness you’ll feel when they light up after receiving a gift specifically catered to their taste will be worth it. Sneak a peek at their own pieces and talk to bespoke jewellers about what they think might be a good choice. Look up artistic brands and research reference images to take with you if you’re going to have a piece made rather than buy one off the shelf.

Stones and metal: You could try pewter or stainless steel and go for one-of-a-kind stones rather than classically cut and coloured ones.

The “Long Term”

If you’ve been with your partner for a very long time, there’s a chance you might not go overboard on Valentine’s Day anymore. Just because your relationship is as comfortable as your favourite cardigan and as familiar as looking at yourself in the mirror doesn’t mean all the romance and surprise needs to go out of it! Make a special effort here and get your partner something you know they’ve wanted but haven’t wanted to get themselves or maybe even haven’t wanted to mention to you. This person is the love of your life; go out of your way to make them feel special.

Stones and metal: Diamonds signify eternity, and platinum lasts a long time.

Wrap Up

If you think carefully before purchasing a piece of jewellery for your partner, you’ll be able to give them a piece they’ll keep close at hand for years to come.
