Bridal Makeup Products

Over the past couple of months, I have been trying out so many new makeup products and different techniques to make sure that my makeup looks nothing short of amazing on my wedding day. Some of you may now know this, but before I worked in marketing, I was a freelance makeup artist and my main earner was doing bridal makeup. By doing that, I learnt things that worked, products to avoid and how to get long lasting makeup. I did think about having my makeup done on the day so that I could sit back and relax, but I am far too much of a control freak to hand it over to somebody else.

So, I thought that for today’s blog post I would break everything down for you guys from my top tips that I have learnt over the years, to some of the products that I have been using over the years and that I still swear by today. I know that there will be other people out there that will want to do their own makeup on their wedding day because it is what they are more comfortable with and I completely understand that, I just hope that this post can help you out a little bit.

My Top Tips
I guess that my first top tip has to be to avoid SPF in your product. When you use products that contain SPF, they produce flashback in your photographs and that is not what you want in your wedding photography. Also, when applying your makeup, work in thin layers and build up the coverage rather than just falling in with too much product. Make sure you use a good primer and setting spray that suits your skin. The last thing has to be to stay true to you and make sure that you feel comfortable in whatever you are wearing on your big day!

Cover FX Matte Primer
This has been a primer that I have been in love with for such a long time and I have been raving about it so much here on my blog. I really don’t think that enough people talk about this product because since I have been using this, I haven’t really felt the need to reach for any other primer in my collection. Even though this is a matte product, I find that it is lovely and hydrating on the skin and it really does give me a smooth and perfected base to go in with my foundation. Like I said, more people do need to try this stuff out!

Nars All Day Luminous Foundation
I wish that I had tried this foundation out sooner because this Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation really does hit the nail on the head. The shade range for this foundation is absolutely amazing with such a vast line. Then it is a very lightweight product that almost feels like you are blending in water to the skin, yet at the same time it has a great level of coverage to it. I think that this is the best foundation that I have ever used and that is why I have mentioned it so many times here on my blog over the years!

Tarte Shape Tape
This is a concealer that no matter how hard I try to push myself to trying out other products, I always end up coming back to this Tarte Shape Tape Concealer. I am sure that you guys already know everything that there is to know about this concealer, but this is a full coverage concealer that hides all of my darkness with absolutely no need to build up the product. This just really does everything that I want my concealer to do.

Charlotte Tilbury Contour Wand
For cream contouring one of my favourite items has to be the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Contour Wand. There are two shades of this product, a lighter and a deeper version. All I do is apply a couple dots of this in the areas where I want to contour and then I blend that out with a Beauty Blender. This Charlotte Tilbury product gives you some dimension to your face but doesn’t chisel you out too much with a harsh contour!

Laura Mercier Translucent Powder
Even if you guys are on the drier side of the spectrum, I would always advice that brides set their makeup in place. Usually your wedding day is going to be a very long day where you are rushed off your feet from start to finish, so a little powder will help to prolong the life of your makeup. This just helps to keep my makeup matte all day long, my pores minimised and as shine free for as long as possible.

Tom Ford Bronzing Powder
It took me quite a while to narrow down the most perfect bronzer shade from my makeup collection, but I finally had to settle on this Tom Ford Bronzing Powder. I have been an avid lover and user of this bronzer for quite some time and I really do adore every single thing about it. Bronzer is something that is very subjective depending on your skin tone, so go out there and look at some of the super popular bronzers that are a suitable tone for you!

MAC Warm Soul Blush
This is the first of two MAC products that I want to mention in this blog post and I feel like this MAC Warm Soul Blusher is the most perfect and cult classic blush shade that they do. The amazing thing about this blusher is for one the shade is just so complimentary to so many different people, with this being a baked blusher it applies and blends out like a dream and finally the colour payoff is absolutely perfect!

MAC Strip Down Liner
I know that I may be a little bias when it comes to this lip pencil because it has been my most used MAC lip liner for quite some time, but I think that for bridal makeup in general that this is the most perfect shade. It does well with so many different complexions, the tone of the pencil is just perfect because it isn’t too brown, pink or purple. I use this stuff everyday layered with some clear lip balm and it is just the most perfect shade.

Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray
The last product that I want to mention in this blog post has to be the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray. I used to use this setting spray many years back when I was a freelance makeup artist and I adored how it would make the bridal makeup look, so I quickly incorporated it into my everyday makeup routine. Without a doubt, this is a must have for all brides and if you are thinking about doing your own makeup, you have to pick this up!

I hope that you guys liked this blog post and that it helps you out whether you are a bride to be or just somebody that wants photo ready makeup. Make sure to leave me a comment down below and let me know some of your top tips for getting a flawless makeup application.

  5. I had only ever tried the NARS foundation for the first time a few months ago and it is hands down the best I've ever used. Why I didn't buy it sooner, I don't know! I haven't decided yet whether I'll be doing my own makeup or whether to get a makeup artist to do it for me. Maybe I'd be best having a makeup trial first and see how it goes? x
