My Tips For Buying Luxury Designer Items

As I am sure you guys will already know if you have been reading my blog for some time, but I am a huge fan of everything high-end and designer. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the high-street and most of the clothes that I wear on a day to day basis are all from the likes of ASOS, Topshop and other normal high-street stores, but I love high-end when it comes to accessories. I think it is something that must have come from growing up with my mum. She was very much the same as I am now when it came to the big brands and she would always have amazing handbags, shoes and jewellery.

Over the years, I have spent more money than I care to mention shopping. I work very hard and I also save very hard, so I love being able to treat myself and splurge on an item that I have had my eye on for a very long time. I really wish that I didn’t like big brands because it would certainly be much easier on my purse, but I really cannot help it. So, I thought that today I would pop together this post all about my tips and tricks to shopping for high-end items and what I wish I had known when I first started out buying items.

Go for Classic Pieces
One of my biggest pieces of advice when it comes to cultivating a wardrobe with designer pieces is to always go for classic pieces. I get that there are sometimes new items released that just captivate you and you are desperate to get your hands on it, but you have to think about the longevity of an item. Think of things that are going to stand the test of time and that you can use year after year without them ever looking old or dated. Stick to classic brands, don’t fall into trends and shop smart. It is normally easy to see straight away if an item is a classic or not, just be wise with what you are spending your money on!

Try and Find It Pre-Loved
I know that some people really aren’t a fan of buying items preloved if you are spending so much money on specific items, but I think that it is such a great thing to do. I always have a look on some trusted reselling websites to try and find if I can get a bargain. Such as my first ever Louis Vuitton bag was bought through Vestiaire Collective and it was amazing quality and I got an absolutely outstanding bargain on it. it is always worth just having a quick check online because you never know what kind of gem you could stumble upon!

Shop Around for The Best Price
Often, when it comes to high end items, they are for sale at more than one place. It isn’t always the case, because some retailers do claim exclusivity on certain items, but for the most part you will be able to find the same item on Selfridges, Harrods, Net-A-Porter and many more. Before I spend money, whether it be online or in person, I always make sure to shop around and make sure that I am getting the best price. Granted, I will not go out of my way to save £5, but if there is 10% off a £2000 bag, you can bet your bottom dollar that I am going to go ahead and buy from there. There are always different offers with different retailers, so be savvy!

Think How You Are Going to Wear and Style Items
When I see a new item, I try not to think about how much I want the item, but more all of the different ways that I am going to wear the item. Ultimately, I want to know if I am going to get my money's worth out of an item, which is what it is all about if I am spending over £1000 on a handbag or £500 on a pair of shoes. If I cannot see myself wearing the item much and getting some worth out of the item, then I will make a choice to walk away from it and find something else that I can incorporate into my wardrobe easier.

Never Impulse Buy
Over the years when I have been shopping, I have seen many items that I have instantly fallen in love with and I have been desperate to get my hands on. Back when I first started splashing the cash on designer items, I would see something and immediately pick them up. The thing is that when the dust has settled, and I think about how much I can really wear/use the item, I start to change my mind. Now, I never impulse buy. If I see an item that I really like, I walk away from it and if it is still playing on my mind after a couple of days, I will go back and get it. Normally in that time, I end up talking myself out of buying it!
