How We Got Engaged!

Since I announced that we got engaged a couple of weeks back, I have had lots of questions asking how we actually went about putting the ring on my finger. If you read that blog post, you will know that we had been talking about getting engaged for a very long time and Liam had actually bought the ring all the way back in September. Because of all of the things that have happened recently in our families, we decided to put back actually announcing our engagement until things blew over and calmed down a touch. Once things had subdued a little, Liam then planned out a special night for the two of us and it was after that evening that we decided to finally start sharing the news of our engagement.

Like I said in my post the other week, it would be lovely to have a story that is all flowers, hearts and unicorns, but at the end of the day that isn’t always possible and that is why there was no down on one knee as such and it was more of a mutual understanding. The most important thing for me though it all was that we are actually now engaged because that is what I have always wanted with my lovely Liam. But, when the time was right for us to start telling people, Liam did make it really special and he planned a mini proposal, which made it seem all the more official for me, even though we had technically already been engaged for around 3 months!

We had an evening where it was just the two of us. We got all dolled up in our finery, went for a lovely meal with one another and then headed into town and hit up some cocktail bars. There was a moment when we were sat together and just belly laughing with one another at something that one of us has said and that was when he pulled out the ring. He had been carrying it with him all evening and he just said, ‘Don’t you think it’s about time you wear this?’, which a huge grin on his face. I yanked it out of his hand, snapped a picture and send it to all of our family and friends. It was amazing to finally tell people and I still don’t think that the novelty has worn off.

I know that compared to some peoples my proposal story is quite small, but it was incredibly special to the two of us and it is what suited us at the time and that is all that really matters. I am so happy to be planning a wedding with my fiancé and I cannot wait to share more about my wedding with you guys over the next couple of months!

  4. I actually think your engagement story is beautiful. Sometimes people make such a huge deal about public proposals and the emphasis is all on getting the ring rather than the longevity and realness of their relationship. I think that the fact both you and Liam are on the same page about your relationship is great only good can come from that! Your ring is bloody gorgeous! Liam did good for real!!!! Congratulations to you both! - x
