How I Organise My Closet

My closet is something that I treasure and that I spend hell of a lot of time staring at and organising. Since I was a very young age, I have been in love with all things fashion, so as I got older and I started to earn my own money, I started to invest and build up my closet. It has been a long process to get it to where it is at today, but I love every single piece in there and I am very selective with the things that I own. That being said, I do still buy clothes hand over fist because I fall in love with so many different items very quickly. But I thought that I would write this post today to share with you guys some of the ways that I keep my closet nice and organised!

Group Clothes by Category
The first thing that I do when it comes to my closet is grouping things by category. That means that instead of throwing everything into my wardrobe, I make sure that all of my coats are together, then all of my dresses are together and so on and so forth. That just means that if I am ever looking for something specific, I know where about in my closet where I should look. It also just helps my closet to look a little more organised from when I am just looking at all of my items!

Turn Hangers According to Wear
Because I own that many clothes, it is hard to keep track on the items that I am actually wearing, so I organise all of my clothes with all of the hangers in the same direction, then as I wear and rehang an item, I turn the coat hanger the opposite way around. Then when it comes to me having a clear out, I can see quite clearly at a glance the items that I am wearing and the ones that I have neglected over the past couple of months. It is an easy thing to do, but something that has helped me out so much!

Put Every Item into My App
I have an app on my phone called ‘Stylebook’ and I have ever single item of my clothing saved in there. You organise your clothes by category on the app and then you can log them on your calendar as and when you wear them. It does seem like hell of a lot of effort I know, but it helps me to see how often I wear certain items, how much they have cost me per wear and I can plan my outfits in that app. You can even upload inspiration images which I look back on when I am struggling to put an outfit together.

Have Everything Clearly on Show
I feel like this is something that is very subjective, and I know that this comes down to personal preference and the space that you have available, but I love to have everything on show. I have a PAX system from Ikea and with that I can organise my closet how I want it to be organised without spending tonnes of money and I can have all of my goodies like my shoes and handbags on show. Like Carrie Bradshaw said, “I like my money where I can see it, hanging in my closet”.

Have Regular Clear Outs and Don’t Be Sentimental
One of the main things that I do to my closet to keep it lovely and organised is have regular clear outs. Every now and then I turn ruthless and I throw loads of things out. All of them things with the hangers that have remained untouched normally make their way to the charity shop where somebody else can enjoy them and actually get use out of them. I am never really a sentimental kind of person and I don’t just keep crap for the sake of keeping crap, so I think a good clear out is so healthy!

I hope that you guys enjoyed this blog post and if you are anything like me and you own a few too many items of clothing then I hope that this helped you out a little. It can take work to make sure that everything is kept well organised, but it is something that I also love doing because as you guys should already know I love organising things because of my OCD and I love fashion in general. Make sure to leave me any tips and tricks that you have below!

  1. A clear out once in a while is needed, I always do it twice a year and you can't imagine how many crap I get rid of! x

  2. Not being sentimental is a hard, but important tip to keep an organized and some what clear wardrobe. Sometimes a dress may spark a certain memory that's hard to let go of, but that's just a reminder for me to go out and make more of those memories. What a beautiful wardrobe you have though – the shoe and bag display is on point! I always like to organize my clothes my colour within their designated section and also by the length of the sleeve or skirt/dress. Have a great rest of the day xx

  3. I'm definitely someone who organises by category, so I know where to look when I have something in my mind. I don't understand people who colour code their closet though. I try to hang from light to dark, more or less :D

  7. I am downloading Stylebook as I type this! I love the idea behind it. And I completely agree with regular clear outs, otherwise you accumulate so much stuff unknowingly!
