My Favourite Makeup of 2018

Seen as though it is a new year, it is time to share with you guys some of the makeup that I loved and reaching for all of the time throughout 2018. If you read my blog last year, I am sure that it was easy to see that I tried hell of a lot of makeup out over the space of the 12 months. For a long time, I wasn’t really in the mood to buy makeup and not much appealed to me, but that all seemed to change last year, and I reverted back to my old makeup buying ways. I spent some time earlier on today looking through my 2018 blog posts and I couldn’t quite believe how many product reviews I uploaded and how makeup I must have bought. Seeing it all actually made me feel incredibly guilty to begin with.

This year I really am going to try and cut down on the sheer amount of makeup that I buy for the sole reason that I bought enough in 2018 to last me for a lifetime. Plus, I have loads on this year that is going to cost me an arm and a leg, so I really do need to make an effort and cut down on the amount of makeup that I purchase. As I am sure you will see in this blog post, hell of a lot of what I am going to talk about this going to be high-end products and the vast majority of them will be base products. Like always, I wouldn’t talk about these products if I really didn’t think that they were worth every single penny that I paid for them and I most certainly wouldn’t mention them to you guys. Anyway, here are my 2018 favourites…

I felt like I had to mention this Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream first because if it hadn’t been for this product, I reckon that the whole skin would have fallen from my face. For some reason, over the past 12 months or so, my skin has completely changed and now my skin is incredibly dry. Because I had always been oily, my skincare routine was pretty lacking in products that actually hydrate the skin, so I had to rush out and treat myself to some new products to try and restore some balance in my skin and get me looking back to normal and that is where this Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream comes in.

I have been applying and using this Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream several times a day for going on a year now and it has done wonders for my skin. Not only is my skin looking nice and hydrated now, I feel like it has also helped to balance out some of the hyperpigmentation in my cheeks. I know that some people were sceptical about this Magic Cream with Charlotte Tilbury being a newer brand that is mainly focused on makeup, but I have used this every single day without fail and I would not keep on buying this at £70 a tub if I didn’t think that it was really worth it. This really does feel like a thick and luxurious cream and I completely love using it.

I didn’t know whether to mention this product or not with me having it for such a long time and with it been on the market for so long, but with how much I have used it, I felt like it was only fair that I actually mentioned it in this blog post. I can remember when I first wanted to pick this up, I didn’t know if it would be for me. From what I had heard online about it, it was quite a silicone texture and I hadn’t liked other primers like that in the past, so I gave this a wide berth for a very long time. In the end, curiosity got the better of me and I knew that I was going to have to pick this up for myself and give it a whirl.

From the very first moment that I picked this up, I knew that it was going to be a firm favourite of mine and I have been using it ever since. All I do every single morning is take a small amount of this on my fingers and I work it into the area around my nose where I have pretty large pores that I want to try and camouflage. I don’t take this all over the face because I really don’t feel like it is completely necessary. What I love about this product is that it completely blurs my pores and makes my skin look like porcelain, it keeps me nice and matte all day long and I find that makeup glides on top of it without a hitch.

I am sure that if you have followed my blog for some time that it will come as no surprise to you guys that I am going to mention the Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation in this blog post. I bought this foundation at the beginning of last year and I very quickly fell in love with it. I can remember when this foundation was first released, I was very intrigued by it, but I wasn’t desperate to get my hands on it. I thought because of me having oily skin and this being a ‘luminous’ foundation that it would just turn me into an oily mess, so I was never that interested in getting my hands on it. It wasn’t until I tried out the Nars Sheer Glow and fell in love with it that I decided that I had to try this out and see what it was like for myself.

What I love about this foundation and what keeps me reaching for it time after time is the incredibly lightweight feeling on the skin and how it blends in. When I first pumped this foundation out onto the back of my hand, I was automatically disappointed at how runny and water like it was. I thought that because of how lightweight this foundation was that it would mean that the coverage would be next to nothing, but that isn’t the case at all. This is a super full coverage foundation and it blends into the skin so flawlessly and easily. I have never used a foundation with this kind of texture before and I am well and truly in love with it and how it makes my skin look. I have been wearing this almost every single day now for a year and I couldn’t love the way that my skin looks anymore.

This is another foundation that I am sure that I am sure will not surprise you that I am mentioning again in this blog post. I don’t know how many times I must have mentioned this over the years, but I am still completely in love with it. I can remember a couple of years back when this foundation was first released, I knew that I was going to have to get my hands on it. People were describing this as a full coverage foundation that was super creamy and blendable on the skin, which is everything that I want from a foundation. When I first bought this from the Space NK website, I bought the entirely wrong shade, but I loved the formula, so I continued to use it and look like an Umpa Lumpa until I had run out and then I bought my correct shade.

From the moment that I got my actual shade, I knew that this was going to very quickly become one of my most used foundations in my entire collection. This glides on the skin so lovely and smoothly. Because of how pigmented this foundation stick is, all you need is a couple of lines around your face and you are good to go. I like to blend this in using a dense buffing brush and then I am good to go. I can get my base products on and in place within a number of seconds when it comes to this foundation and that is why I love it so much. Honestly, I have tried so many different foundations over the years and it is safe to say that this is one of the best foundations that I have ever used.

I didn’t really want to mention this TarteShape Tape in this blog post solely for the reason why I have mentioned it almost non-stop over the past couple of years. When this was first released, as much as I wanted to try it out, I waited and stuck to my good old Urban Decay Weightless Concealer, simply because I couldn’t get my hands on the Tarte Shape Tape here in the UK. When I realised that this was one of them products that wasn’t going anywhere, I knew that I was going to have to try and get my hands on it for myself. After ordering it from the US and receiving it, I knew that it was going to become my new go to product for concealing.

I am sure that I don’t need to mention the ins and outs of this product because I am sure that people are already well aware of how this concealer looks on the skin. This is a super full coverage concealer that has no issue covering even the most challenging areas on my face. I have darkness underneath my eyes and hyperpigmentation on my cheeks and this just covers everything without a hitch. I just dot on a small amount of product and then I blend it into my skin using my damp Beauty Blender and I am good to go. Since I first tried this and fell in love with it, I have tried out so many other concealer, but nothing as of yet has been able to beat this product.

Even though we all know that I am a high-end kind of girl when it comes to makeup, this drugstore product has slipped through the net and I am completely obsessed with it. I must have had this concealer in my collection for going on 6 years now and I have gone through countless amounts of them over the years. This is one of them cult classic products and I am sure that if Maybelline were to ever discontinue this product, there would be a global outcry to bring it back. This has been an unsung hero of my makeup collection for such a long time and I thought that it was finally time to give it some recognition.

This is a full coverage makeup product that glides on the skin so easily. I know that some people had an issue with the sponge tip on the end, but that really doesn’t concern me in the slightest because of the amazing quality of the product. This is my go to concealer on one of them days where I need my makeup on and in place within a matter of seconds. This is easy to draw onto the skin and because it is a thin consistency and high level of coverage it is so easy to blend into the skin. I can get this concealer on my face and looking perfect within a sheer number of seconds. I know for a fact that I am going to keep one of these in my collection for a very long time to come.

I can remember when this Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Contour Wand was starting to get teased online, I loved the way it looked. I think it was shown a couple of months before the UK release date and I had to sit like a giddy child waiting for it to be released. I don’t think that it had even been on the Charlotte Tilbury website for 10 minutes and I already bought it, checked out and it was getting delivered to me the following day. From what I saw online from the beauty bloggers who got this in PR, I knew that I was going to love it before I even got my hands on it.

All you need to do is twist the top of the product and then the product can start to flow. You gently squeeze the tube and then the product itself starts to flow through the sponge tip applicator and then you are good to go. I tend to just dot this around the face in the areas that I want to contour like around the top of the head, along the cheekbones and under the jawline. Once this is on the skin, all I do is take my damp Beauty Blender to work it into the skin and my foundation and within minutes it looks absolutely perfect. I have tried many contouring products over the years, but nothing that is quite like this. There honestly isn’t a single thing that I would change about this because it is a winner in my book.

I can remember first seeing this on YouTube and I loved how it looked straight away. I had been looking for something new to cream contour with and this just happened to pop up at the right time. I had a look into a couple of different review and everybody seemed to really like it and say that the quality of the product was really high. Plus, I have tried out quite a few different Cover FX products over the years and every single item has been absolutely amazing, so I didn’t think twice about picking this up. The only thing that I did struggle with when it came to buy this palette was finding the right shade for my skin.

In the end, I got the colour palette G-Med/Deep which really is the most perfect tone for my skin. I have been using this more or less every single day because it is such an easy palette to use and so low maintenance to apply. All I do is take my already damp Beauty Blender that I use for my concealer and foundation, then I just dip the rounded end in the shade that I want from this palette and I start to build up the contour colour just in the areas where I want it. I feel like this is such a vastly underrated makeup palette and I cannot believe that more people don’t try this out for themselves. I know that this is going to be a permanent fixture in my makeup collection for many years to come!

When this product was first released, I knew that I was going to have to get my hands on it and try it out for myself. Over the years I have tried out quite a few different Hourglass base products and I have loved every single one of them. As soon as this Hourglass Veil Translucent Powder went live on the Space NK website, I logged straight on and bought one for myself. From the very first time that I tried this out, I knew that it was going to be one of my favourite powders, but in the 6 months that I have been using this, it has completely eclipsed my RCMA No Colour Powder and my beloved Laura Mercier Translucent Powder.

What is absolutely amazing about this powder is not only does it set the skin and keep my makeup in place all day long, it makes my skin look so lovely and healthy. This adds a glow to the skin so even if you pile the powder on to really mattify the skin, this could never look heavy or cakey because of the glow that it gives you. I have been using this now for well over six months and I simply adore how it makes my skin look. I don’t think that I could ever get bored of this powder because it makes my skin look unlike anything else that I have had in my collection in the past. I really couldn’t recommend this powder enough!

I am sure that you guys know that this is one of my all-time favourite makeup products and I absolutely love using it. I can remember when I first saw this, I didn’t think that it was going to be for me. I had tried the Anastasia Brow Wiz in the past and even though it was a nice eyebrow product, I didn’t necessarily reach for it all of the time and it wasn’t a holy grail product and I didn’t repurchase it once I had run out. When I saw this, I thought that it was going to be the same kind of story, but once I finally got my hands on it, I knew that I was wrong to think that, and I have been in love with it since.

What is amazing about this product is that it is so precise and super pigmented. Because of the thin nib on the end, you are able to draw in individual brow hairs to get a very natural and feathery looking brow. Plus, because this is a highly pigmented product you don’t need to press on very hard in order to get a good amount of colour pay off. I use this every single day without fail, even on the days when I am going for minimal makeup because it is perfect for feathering through individual hairs just to fill in sparse areas. The one thing that I will say about this Benefit Precisely My Brow Pencil is that it does run out pretty quickly, but in my opinion, it is worth having to buy on every couple of weeks!

I don’t know how many times I have mentioned this product since I first started my blog up, but I am guessing that it has been hell of a lot. I actually think that this may have been one of the first products that I ever reviewed here on my blog, which is just baffling to think all of them years back. When I first started to get into grooming and filling in my brows, Anastasia was the one brand that I knew I wanted to try out and get my hands on some of the items. As I am sure you are well aware, Anastasia is a world-renowned eyebrow brand, which is why it was a no brainer that I wanted to go ahead and get my hands on this Anastasia Clear Brow Gel.

Once I have filled in my brows using either my Benefit Precisely My Brow Pencil or the Hourglass Arch Brow Pencil I will then take my Anastasia Clear Brow Gel to comb through my brow hairs and lock them into place. I like to do this because not only does it keep every single one of my brow hairs in place and stops them from looking bedraggled throughout the day. Also, I feel that when I do this and comb my brow hairs in an upwards direction that it makes my brows look hell of a lot thicker than they are naturally. This is one of them items that I have to have in my collection at all times and I cannot go a single day without using it.

How could I not mention this Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara in this blog post? I have been using this now for years and I am still completely obsessed with it and I have used it more ore less every single day over the past year. I can remember a couple of years back when I didn’t have a holy grail mascara in my collection, I would just buy a different one each time mine ran out and I never really compelled to repurchase the same one again, until I tried out this Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara. I had seen this mentioned a couple of times online and from what could see, this looked like my kind of mascara, so I had to go out and try it out for myself.

My favourite thing about this mascara that keeps me going back for more is how long it makes my lashes look and how much volume it adds. When you pull the wand out of the tube, you can see the curved wand and that helps to hit every single eyelash as you are applying the product. I find that when I use this, my lashes are so much thicker by the time I am done than when I first use it. I have worn this more or less every single day over the past 12 months and I never get any smudging or budging, and this stays put and lasts me all day long without any issues.

This was one of them products that I initially bought completely on a whim. I never normally go for collections like this or special collaborations, but this just spoke to me for some reason and I knew that I was going to have to get my hands on it and try it for myself. I looked into a couple of reviews online before finally going ahead and picking it up for myself, but they were quite varied, and I found that some people completely loved this and then there was others who didn’t get on with it and found that the quality of the shadows were pretty sub-par. I knew that the only way that I was going to have a definitive answer was to actually try it out.

The first thing that I guess wound me up a little when I got this palette was that one of the shades was smashed and it has gone all over every single colour in the palette. I spend some time tidying it up, but it never looked new. I guess that is the risk you take if you are buying things from across the pond. As for the product itself, I am so bloody in love with it. I find that all of the shades blend in absolutely perfectly, there is a great selection if you are obsessed with neutral eye looks like me and this is a day to night kind of palette. No matter where I am going or what I am doing, this is the eyeshadow palette that will be on my eyes at all times!

I am sure that you guys will know all about this product and if you have read my blog before, you will know that I am completely obsessed with this Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow. I can remember when Charlotte Tilbury makeup first came onto the scene and this product was released, I knew that I was going to have to pick it up and try it out for myself. It is saving to say that since then, I have been an avid user of this compact and god knows how many times I must have recommended this to so many people over the years. This is just one of them products that I think every single makeup lover should have in their collection.

The thing that I love the most about this product is the highlighting shade. To begin with, I thought that I would use the contouring shade more, but it is actually the opposite way around. What I love about this highlighter and the reason why I use it so much is because it isn’t too intense or too much on the skin. The shade is very natural and when you veil it on the skin using a fan brush, it really does make your skin look like it is glowing rather than having a harsh highlighter on. Over the years I have gone through two of these and every single time I have had to buy another because the highlighter shade has run out.

This seems to be one of them makeup items that people either seem to really love, or they bloody hate it. I have been using this on and off for years not, but I think it is quite clear to see, especially after the last 12 months or so that I absolutely adore this product. I can remember first seeing this MAC Give Me Sun being shown all over the show on YouTube a couple of years ago and I thought that it looked stunning on everybody who used it. Naturally it went onto my wish list until I finally got around to picking it up for myself. I wouldn’t even know how many of these I have bought over the years because I just burn through them like nobody’s business.

What I adore about this bronzer is the tone of it. I know that many people say that this is far too orange on them, but for somebody with a medium complexion like me, this is the most perfect shade. It is very rare that I actually find a bronzer deep enough to show up on my skin, but this one does, and it does a bloody great job at it too. This is a very pigmented bronzer that just looks stunning on the skin and I don’t think that you can ask anymore from a bronzer. this has turned into one of them cult classic products for fair reason and that is because it is bloody amazing and is such a stunning shade. To say that I am obsessed would be an understatement.

I am sure that I have been the proud owner of this bronzer for well over a year, but I used it near enough to death throughout 2018. I can remember when I first really fell in love with makeup, I was desperate to get my hands on the Tom Ford bronzer. I thought that it was the packaging more than anything else that really made me want to treat myself to it. I think back then, there was only the large size of this available and I am pretty sure that it was around £80, and I didn’t fancy spending that much money on it, so I decided just to bide my time and go without. Eventually, they started selling a smaller compact of this bronzer and it had my name written all over it.

What I adore about this bronzer is how incredible and creamy this is. I like to add it to the skin using my big ass Tom Ford Bronzer brush and it goes onto the skin like an absolute dream. When you swatch this bronzer onto your skin, it is so easy to see how smooth and buttery this bronzer really is. It takes absolutely no effort to get a good colour pay off on the skin and even if you go in a little heavy with the product, with gentle buffing this blends right out into the skin. I know that some people get a bee in their bonnet about me talking about Tom Ford products because they are pretty pricey, but they are high quality products that are bloody worth it at the end of the day.

The last product that I am going to mention in this incredibly long blog post has to be the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray. I had wanted to get my hands on this for a really long time, but I didn’t know if it would actually make that much difference to my skin. I felt like my makeup did tend to look good anyway, did I really need to spend more money on a product like this, when I didn’t have any issues. It wasn’t until I was planning on doing my sisters makeup on her wedding day that I figured that it was finally time to invest in this because it is an unwritten rule that no bride shall walk down the aisle without having this Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray on their face.

What I do with this product is when all of my makeup is completely, I spritz this all over my face until I feel like my face has a lovely even layer of it all over. It only needs a couple of minutes to sink in and then I am good to go. I feel like not only does this product help to lock in my makeup and make me good to go for the whole day, it also helps the powder products on my face to melt into the liquids and creams to give me a much more natural looking complexion. This is one of them products where you cant really pinpoint why it is one of your favourites, it just is. If I go a day without using this now, I feel completely bare and I am itching to use it again.

I know that this very quickly turned into one of the longest blog posts that I have ever done, but I just had so many products that I wanted to talk to you guys about. As normal, if you want to see my full review on any of the items that I have mentioned, just click the name of the item above to go to that page. Make sure to leave me a comment down below and let me know what some of your favourite products of 2018 were!
