3 Years of Blogging

As of this week, I have officially been blogging for 3 whole years. I can remember setting myself the New Years resolution to set up my blog after I had been talking myself in and out of it for the best part of 2 years. Even though I wanted to have my own space on the internet where I could write posts and reviews, I was also so shy that I couldn’t bring myself to do it. The idea of anybody that I actually knew finding my blog made me feel completely sick to my stomach, which is why when I first created my blog, it was 100% anonymous.

When I first started out my blog, it was just something that I did as a hobby here and there. I wanted to keep it just a bit of fun that I did as and when I thought that I had something to share with people. I didn’t put any pressure on myself to upload posts strictly, I just did it as a bit of fun and looking back, I loved writing for my blog at that time. At the same time, I was nervous because as I looked at other blogs, I felt very subpar compared to them and it made me very conscious that I had to make my blog bigger and better.

It very quickly turned into something much more than that. I wanted to make it look like all of the other blogs out there, so I created a schedule for my posts, bought a theme and a camera and I started working so hard on it. I knew what I was doing with it because of my job in marketing and I quickly started spending every single moment of my free time on making my blog into something bigger and better. That was when I felt like it changed from a hobby into more of a part time job and I have to admit that at times it was very overwhelming.

As much as I loved what I was writing about, it has at times turned into far too much to deal with. I was getting up early in a morning to work on my blog, then going and working my normal 9 to 5 job, only to come home again and work all evening on my blog whether it be writing new content, socialising with people or replying to comments. The same goes for my weekends, for the longest time I never had a weekend where I could just sit back and relax because there was always a list as long as my arm of things that I needed to do. It made me question at times why I put myself through it and continue to blog.

It got to a stage where I had to strip things back and work out a schedule and a rhythm that worked out for me. With everything that was happening in my life, I simply couldn’t carry on the way that it was and that was when I had to start from scratch and rewrite the rules that I had been working from. After realising that I had to strip things back and that is when I started to enjoy blogging again. I took it back to the good old days when I just did it for fun and it made me love it so much more. I started to make the most out of the free PR goodies and the amazing opportunities and I finally found like I found how I wanted to fit into the blogging community!

It has been a really good 3 years and I cannot wait to see what else is to come. I am going to continue to work hard on my content and images, but I am over trying to break my back for my blog. Make sure to leave me a comment down below and let me know how long you have been blogging for!

  6. I have come to the point where I just post when I feel like it, and try not to be too hard on myself when I get back into a rhythm it will come naturally but I don't want to lose sight of blogging because I want to and fall into blogging because it feels like a job if that makes sense, I have read your blog for years and think it is wonderful and impressive, I look forward to reading more of your posts in 2018, happy new year (a bit late, I know) xxx

  8. I can totally relate to this, just clicked on your blog and thought my god its beautiful, your photos, your thought out posts the lot. I started my blog a month ago as a hobby whilst i'm working away on a cruise ship and looking at yours I am desperate to have a successful blog I have spent hours daily sorting everything out still trying to learn about traffic and how to get my blog out to people and even what to write about or how I could potentially monetize as i'd love to make a somewhat career out of blogging I enjoy it so much but you're right its so so super hard at first. Any tips and tricks you could give me or some help how to start getting readers would be massively appreciated xx

  16. Congratulations on 3 years of blogging! It's definitely a struggle finding a balance but having a hobby that brings so much creativity, joy and happiness always makes it worth it. I feel like to non-bloggers it's difficult to understand how we can enjoy such a time consuming hobby but it's only something bloggers can truly understand.
