RCMA VK #11 Palette Review

Todays blog post is something that is a little different for my blog and that is because it is all about professional makeup. By that, I mean that it is aimed at people who do freelance makeup for a living and who have a professional kit. I used to have this palette as part of my kit many years ago when I was hustling as bustling as a freelance makeup artist. For those of you who don’t know, I use to work freelance and I specialised in bridal makeup and this RCMA VK Palette was one of my go to palettes that I could not leave my house without. Then, when I saw it on the Beauty Bay website, I knew that I wanted to buy another, for old times’ sake!

RCMA are a professional makeup brand, which have catered for makeup artists for many years. I am sure that most people will have heard of this brand before because of their popular RCMA No Colour Powder which has taken the world by storm over the past couple of years and it has been a firm favourite of mine for many years. When I saw this palette, I remembered how much I used to love it and how pigmented the shades were and I decided that I wanted to give it another go.  Plus, when I bought this earlier on last year, I knew that I was going to be doing my sisters makeup for her hen party and wedding and I needed some new foundations because she is as white as snow and I am incredibly tanned!

When I got this through the mail from Beauty Bay I was so excited to open it. It looked so immaculate in the pan and I almost didn’t want to touch it. The packaging of this palette is just perfect for what I need from it. I wanted something lightweight and portable that I could throw in my makeup bag without having to carry lots of bottles or compacts of foundations. The packaging is hardwearing and heavy duty, so I don’t have to worry about it smashing or cracking in transit. I also love that it has a nice big mirror for either yourself if you are doing your own makeup, or so you can show a client their makeup. The compact does get a little dirty the more you use it, but it is nothing that a baby wipe cannot sort out!

Now onto one of the most important things about this palette and that is the shade range. I chose this palette purely based on the incredible shade range. You have everything from very light to the opposite end of the spectrum with some very rich shades. You also get a white in this shade which helps you if you need to mix some shades to create a bespoke foundation shade that isn’t already in the palette. I used to carry with this palette with me to all of my bridal makeup applications and not once did it fail me, or did I need to reach for another foundation. It is that reason why I continued to use it until every single shade in the palette has been used.

I like to apply these cream foundations in a couple different ways, but I thought that I would share my favourites with you. One way that I apply this is by popping a little bit onto the back of my mixing palette using a spatula. Then with a foundation brush or going straight in with my Beauty Blender I will apply it to the face. My other way of applying this is by going straight in with a brush such as my Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate brush which is the perfect shade to fit into these small pans, I will paint that onto the face and blend it in using a sponge. It really does depend on what type of finish and level of coverage you want.

The consistency of each of these products is lovely and creamy. When you swatch your finger into the pan, you really can see just how smooth and buttery they are. The lovely and creamy consistency makes it incredibly easy to blend into the skin and get a really flawless finish. Because of how beautiful this feels, it allows you to use it with whatever tool you wish, whether it be your fingers, a brush or a sponge and it will always look stunning. Also, the creaminess makes the products nice and easy to mix together if you need to create your own foundation shade.

Now, I want to talk about something that is incredibly important when you are talking about a palette like this and that is the level of coverage. Each of the colours in this palette are pretty much blocks of pure pigment, which means the level of coverage is incredibly high. This means that when you are applying them to the face, you really do only need the smallest amount of product and it goes a very long way indeed as you are blending them out. I even find myself reaching for this RCMA VK Palette on an everyday basis, because I sue much less product from this palette as I would from a liquid foundation.

The other good thing about this foundation which makes it perfect for freelancing for either bridal makeup or photoshoots is because there is no SPF in these foundations. It is the SPF in a foundation that causes you to get flashback and a white cast on photos, but that will never happen with the RCMA VK Palette. Obviously, for more of an everyday basis, you should wear an SPF.

The last thing that I want to mention is the price of this palette. When I bought this from Beauty Bay earlier on in 2018 this palette set me back around £60. I know that sounds hell of a lot of money, but when you think about how many shades you get, the pigmentation of each shade and how much use you can get out of this, it is worth every single penny in my opinion. I have been using this foundation over the past couple of months for foundation and as a cream highlighter and contour product and I love it. I know that when this palette starts to run low, I am going to have to go back out and buy another because this is a staple in my makeup collection yet again.

I will leave a link to this product down below in case you want to check it out for yourself. Make sure to leave me a comment down below and let me know what you think about this palette and if you would ever be interested in something like this!

  5. I had no idea SPF gave flashbacks in photography. I always turn away from without SPF these days, but then again I don't do professional make up!
