My August Favourites!

How in all that is holy are we in bloody September already? I feel like August flew by within the blink of an eye. For most of August, I was so incredibly busy. In-between house hunting, working and my blog, I feel like I barely had a moment to myself. Then, I got the flu. I have never had the actual flu before, I have had bad colds that have knocked me, but not actual flu. I have never felt so ill or drained in my whole life. Thank god that I forward plan as much as I can here on my blog, or I don’t think I could have set a post live. For days on end, I was just laid in bed with The US Office playing in the background.

But, I am back to fighting fit now and back on it with my blog.  While I was pretty immobile and in bed, I did quite a lot of online ordering, so when I got back around to wearing makeup, I had quite a few new items to try out. So, in this month’s favourites posts there are some old favourites that I am sure you will have seen me mention time and time again, and there are also some new items that I am completely obsessed with. I feel like I am finally starting to get excited about makeup again and I am so happy about that because I feel like for quite a while I lost it. Anyway, here are my August favourites.

I have had my eye on this foundation for the longest time, but I didn’t want to buy it because I hadn’t really seen many other people talking about it, and the few reviews that I had seen about this foundation wasn’t that glowing. In the end, I just decided to go for it and treat myself to this foundation, I think I got a 20% off voucher at Cult Beauty that twisted me arm enough for me to buy it. All I had really heard about this foundation was that it was very full coverage and pretty thick, so I really wanted to try it out for myself to see if I liked it or not, turns out that I like it quite a bit.

I have quite a few areas on my face that I would always choose to cover. I have darkness on one of my cheeks from where I was quite badly sun burnt when I was much younger. I also have freckles across my nose, that I like to try and hide. This Becca Ultimate Cover Foundation literally covers everything on my face so perfectly. All I need is one light layer of this foundation and absolutely everything that I want to cover, is gone. I do agree that this is a quite thick foundation, but that isn’t something that bothers me. I will either just buff it in using my Morphe M439 or a damp Beauty Blender and I feel like every time I apply it, it looks really flawless and feels nice.

I have been making a conscious effort over the past couple of months to try and branch out and try some other setting powders out, but something keeps bringing me back to my trusty RCMA No Colour Powder. I am sure that most of you will be sick of hearing me mention this RCMA No Colour Powder, but it really is one of my holy grail products and I know that I am going to love it for a very long time indeed. I first tried this out probably around 4 years ago and I have been using it ever since and it is safe to say that it is a firm favourite of mine and any other translucent powder that I have tried, just doesn’t really seem to come close to it at the moment.

The main reason why I love this powder is because it mattifies my face and locks in all of my liquid and cream products, without it being too overly matte and drying out my skin. I have combination skin, so I have to be very select with the products that I use and this RCMA No Colour Powder is a winner in my book. Plus, the amount of product that you get for the price is just above and beyond what you would get with any other translucent powder and it is incredible value for money. I have to make sure that I always have a full one of these sat on my shelves at all time and I know that it is going to be that way for a very long time!

Even though I have been trying out so many new products, I need to mention my old favourite Too Faced Bronzer. I have said it before, but when I first bought this bronzer, I hadn’t tried anything out by Too Faced before. It was a brand that I had seen lots about online, but it never really appealed to me, which is why I didn’t bother with it for a really long time. It wasn’t until I saw Casey Holmes using this that I knew I had to try it out. I basically buy anything that she uses and loves, so this product went straight onto my wishlist. I bought this from Debenhams and from the moment I received it through the post, I was completely obsessed with it and it is by a country mile my most used bronzer in my whole collection.

This is quite a light bronzer compared to the ones that I usually go for and that may actually be why I like it so much. In the pan you get a light and a deeper half, I like to swirl the two together and it is the perfect combination for me. I really like that there is a little shimmer running through this because I find that it adds some dimension into the face. This is a super blendable bronzer and it never looks too intense. I reach for this every single day, because it shows up really nice, but it also isn’t blatantly obvious that you are wearing a tonne of bronzer. I know that this is going to be a permanent member in my makeup collection for a very long time indeed because I am hooked on it!

As soon as I saw Charlotte Tilbury herself mention this product herself on her Instagram, I knew I had to try it out. Everybody should know by now that I adore everything Charlotte Tilbury, so I knew before I even got my hands on this that I was going to love it. I bought the deeper shade of the two contouring wands that she released and honestly, I adore it so much. I literally reach for this every single day as part of my makeup routine. I love how this looks and it is just a product that I know is going to look really good, no matter how much effort I put into blending, which is important for me when I am getting ready first thing in a morning!

One of my favourite things about this product is that it is so super creamy, it makes it so nice and easy to blend in because of how creamy it is. I bought the deeper of the two contour shades that there is available, and it is just perfect for tanned skin. I know that the applicator of this for a lot of people was an issue, but I actually really like it. I even have a backup one of these on my shelf for when I start to run love on it.  We all know that I love everything Charlotte Tilbury and that is no different with this one.

I know that I have mentioned this Benefit primer so many times here on my blog, but I really am still just as obsessed with it as I was when I first started to use it. Before I tried this primer out, I kind of thought that they were a myth. It wasn’t until I started using this that I realised that it made my makeup application so much smoother and my makeup lasted so much better, all day long. I have tried many primers over the years since I fell in love with this one, but it is still this one that I reach for time and time again and I think that just shows how much I really do love this product.

What I love about this primer is that it isn’t heavy on the skin. Some mattifying and pore filling primers can feel quite thick on the skin, this one just glides on the skin really smoothly and feels like skincare as opposed to makeup. Even though I wouldn’t say that this primer does control my oil, it does even out my skin, fill in my pores and give me a nice base for my makeup. One tube of this stuff will last me for months on end because I only need the smallest amount. I really couldn’t recommend a primer any more than I do this one, it is phenomenal. I was pretty late onto the bandwagon with this one, but now I am its biggest fan and I recommend that every single person tries this out!

MAC Blush in Melba
I have always made it quite clear here on my blog that I am not really a blusher kind of person. If I had to choose between a blusher or a bronzer, I would choose bronzer every single time. But, when I find a blusher that I finally love, I use it almost constantly until I am sick of it. Every day when I have done my makeup for the past month, this is the product that I have been using to finish it all off. I honestly think that I may even love this blush colour more than I do my all-time favourite Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic Blusher in Sex on Fire, and you should all know that is really high praise.

As I am sure that some of you will already know, for quite a while, I have been creating my own MAC Pro Blush palette. It has been quite a labour of love because I wanted to get shades that were different, but wearable at the same time. Not to mention that it is quite an expensive thing to do, so I wanted to try and make every single shade, absolutely perfect. When I saw this shade Melba in the store and swatched it on the back of my hand I loved how it looked against my skin tone, so I had to treat myself to it. This is just a really great blusher, it is easy to blend, looks pretty on the skin and it lasts all day long!

I first tried this Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturiser out the other year and I really loved it, but I stopped using it when I went ahead and bought the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream. What I have started to use this cream to moisturise my face with, before I go in with my makeup. I have never really applied moisturiser before makeup because of my oily skin, I didn’t really want an additional product no my skin, but since I started to use this, I have noticed such a big difference in my makeup and how it looks throughout the day. And I have been loving it.

I find that this gives me such a perfect base to then go in with my makeup products. Even though I do have oily skin, I can get quite dry in areas like my forehead. So, I take just a small amount of this on my fingers and massage it into the areas around my forehead, my cheeks and down my neck. I try to completely avoid the area around my nose where I do get oily. I find that this just balances my makeup out so nicely. It isn’t too thick that it feels heavy and I find that it soaks into the skin nice and quickly. This is definitely a winner in my book and I love reaching for it.

Since seeing this foundation splashed all over the place late last year I really wanted to try it out. Even though this was really high up on my list of things to try, I just couldn’t bring myself to part with my money. I am sure that everybody here knows that I am completely obsessed with makeup, but I have been trying to be good and spend a little less money on makeup. Not to mention that I already have so many foundations in my collection and I really just couldn’t bring myself to spend more money on another one just to sit in my drawer. But as normal, it was looking back on Casey Holmes’ videos, which convinced me into buying this YSL All Hours Matte Foundation.

I will say that this foundation does have a high alcohol content, which I know will immediately put a lot of people off straight away. It isn’t really something that bothers me because I rotate the foundations which I use so often, so using it every now and again doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I think the shade range in this is really nice, well for my medium skin tone anyway, I understand that it is quite limited towards the deeper end of the spectrum. This is a nice full coverage foundation, which I think looks so stunning when I apply it. It helps to keep my skin nice and matte without having to powder lots of times throughout the day. I think that this is just a great foundation for any makeup hoarder like me to own.

I used to have this product so many years ago and I can remember at the time really liking it. When I ran out of it though for some reason, I never bought it again. It must have been because of money or something at the time, but over the years I just completely forgot about it. I decided to give this another try after loitering at the MAC store for far too long. I saw it sat on the stand and I just wondered if I would still love it as much as I did many moons ago. It is safe to say that ever since I bought this, I have been completely in love with it and I have used it every single day, sometimes twice a day just to spruce myself up a little.

I have said it so many times here on my blog, but I have quite oily skin. Because of my oily skin, I load my face up with powder to try and balance things out, but it also means that sometimes my skin can look quite cakey due to all of the powder. What I have started to do is take my MAC Fix + and when I am done with my base makeup, I will douse my face in this. Within a few seconds it has completely melted my foundation and powder together and it makes me look much more natural. Since buying this one, I have even bought a spare one that is currently sat on my shelf so that I don’t run out of it again!

There you have it, all of my August favourites. I know that this was quite a long post, but there is just so much that I have been enjoying at the moment. As normal, I will leave links to everything that I have mentioned in case you want to check any of them out. If you want to see my full review of anything that I have mentioned, make sure to click on the name of the item above. Make sure to leave me a comment down below and let me know what products you’ve been loving through August.

  6. There are some really great classics in this post, it's like you've rediscovered a lot of previously hyped up products. I would love to try out the Too Faced bronzer but I own so many, and the packaging looks like it won't fit in my current makeup setup :D

Mac Melba is such a great blush and honestly, it will last you a life time. I just dug it out again today and I forgot what a great shade it actually is. It pairs so well with warm toned eyeshadow looks and I just combined it with my Urban Decay Naked Heat palette, I can't tell you how good they look together!
