My Favourite Makeup Brushes

I do hell of a lot of posts here on my blog all about makeup, but it isn’t every often that I mention my makeup brushes. I never really thought that people would want to know about my brushes, but whenever I have a done a review on a brush, or I have mentioned them in my posts, I have had hell of a lot of comments about them. So, I thought it was about time that I rounded all of my favourites up in one post and let you know what they are. I know that some people can get really annoyed about how much money I have spent on some of my brushes, but I’m not telling other people to buy them, I am just letting you guys know what I love.

When I was younger, I didn’t really see the point in makeup brushes. I thought that I could use my hands and little cheap cosmetic sponges for everything, it wasn’t until I actually tried them out, that I realised what I had been missing. Over the years, I have slowly built up my brush collection and I feel quite happy now about all of the brushes that I have. Don’t get me wrong, there are still more brushes that I want, but I don’t feel like there are any gaps in my collection. So anyway, without any more rambling, here are my favourite makeup brushes…

Morphe M439
I know that some people seem to really get the face on when anybody mentions Morphe, but I have to mention this brush because I am obsessed with it. I first bought this brush almost 3 years ago and I am still going strong with the same one. I bought this after watching Jaclyn Hills makeup tutorials and I always admired this brush. For foundation, this is the only brush that I reach for. It is a dense buffing brush, that blends things into the skin so flawlessly. It is dense, but not too dense and there is still movement in the bristles. I wash this every single week and I have never had any issues with the quality of the brush. After trying and loving this Morphe brush, I have gone on and tried out some more of their stuff!

MAC 130 Duo Fibre Brush
I have had this brush for absolute donkey’s years, I think it was one of the first MAC brushes that I ever bought. What I love this brush for at the moment is blending in my cream contour. I will contour my face using my Iconic pigment stick or the Hourglass Vanish Foundation in a deeper shade, and I will then grab this to blend it into my foundation and it does the job so beautifully. I will say that when I first bought this brush and I washed it, it did shed quite a lot, but after a couple washes, it was like perfect!

Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Brush
I know that people tend to kick off when I mention Tom Ford brushes, but they really are out of this world. After trying and loving the Tom Ford Bronzer Brush, that I will mention later, I knew I had to try out more brushes by the brand. What I use this brush is applying cream makeup products. This is perfect for pairing with products like my RCMA VK palette. I will take this brush and then apply the product just where I want it, before I blend it in. This is a super soft brush that does the job perfectly. It washes really nice and I have noticed no shedding whatsoever, which is a bloody good job for the price!

Real Techniques Setting Brush
I am sure that this was one of the first Real Techniques brushes that I ever used, and it is still going strong. What I use this brush for is setting the area underneath my eyes, or I will highlight my face with it. When I use this to set my concealer underneath my eyes, it just seems to do the job really well, because I can get it nice and close to my lash line, because it isn’t too thick. Then, when I highlight with this brush, it is just the perfect shape to make sure that I get a really natural application with it having a tapered tip. I have tried many Real Techniques brushes over the years and I find that the quality is really good throughout the range.

Morphe E48
This was another Jaclyn Hill recommended Morphe purchase, but another one that I really love. This is another brush that I use to set the area underneath my eyes and this is the perfect one. This is a great tapered blending brush that I find perfect for setting my face with. I can guarantee you that when I leave the house with makeup on in a morning, this brush will always be in my bag to top up my makeup throughout the day. The quality of this brush is really nice, I wouldn’t say that it is as soft as the Real Techniques Setting Brush, but it is a great alternative. Plus, this is part of their elite line and I really love them.

Real Techniques Powder Brush
This is pretty much the only powder brush that I have ever used, and I still think that it is great. I reach for this day in and day out to set my whole face with and I have no complaints about it at all. It is a lovely and soft brush, that just allows the powder to glide onto my face like silk. It washes really nicely and comes out like new at the end. I do have my eye on the La Mer Powder brush and even though it does look stunning, I cannot see how it could be so different to my RT Powder Brush.

Real Techniques Blush Brush
This may say that it is a blush brush, but I adore this brush for contouring with. After I am finished with my foundation and I have set my face, I like to go in with a slightly deeper face powder and lightly contour my face and this is the brush that I always reach for to do it with. Because the brush is rounded on the end and tapered, it does all the work when it comes to blending in the product. This is one of the oldest brushes that I have in my collection and it is still going strong. This is such a multi-functional brush and I think everybody should own this one.

MAC 217 Brush
I have quite a few of these brushes in my collection and that is just because I cannot be without them. I use one of every single day to apply the shadow into my crease, I have never found a blending brush that does that quite as well as this brush does. I also like to use this brush for concealing with. Whether it be the area under my eyes to cover my darkness, or to spot conceal, this is just a really great brush to reach for. I think I have about 6 of these in my pot because every time I am at a MAC store I will pick another one up!

Illamasqua Brow Brush
I don’t tend to use many Illamasqua makeup products anymore, because I realised that it is the only brand that has ever broke me out in the past, but I cannot deny that I love this brush. This is the most precise eyebrow brush that I have ever used and that is why it is one of my favourites. I reach for this Illamasqua Brow Brush more or less every single day to apply my powder brow products and it is just perfection. It is super easy to wash and always comes out as good as new. Not to mention that it looks super sleek with the black handle.

Anastasia Brow Brush
When I first bought the Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade, I bought this brush to use with it. For a long time, I didn’t use this, and I just used another brush that I had in my collection. It wasn’t until I started to pair the two together, I realised how good my brows could look. This is a super thin and precise brush, which is amazing for drawing in single brow hairs and creating a really natural and full look. I reach for this brush every single day because it is just a great little tool to have in your collection. Plus, it is super easy to clean, whenever I am done with it, I just wipe it off in a wet wipe and I am good to go the next day.

Tom Ford Bronzer Brush
I know that I have mentioned this brush before in a blog post on its own and it is fair to say that in the comments I got in trouble. Some people really wanted to kill me for spending £85 on a bronzer brush, but at the end of the day, it is my money. I saw this brush for the longest time and I really to try it out. I have never had a makeup brush that is quite as soft, high quality and that does the job as well as this one does. I know that it is expensive, but I really do think that it is worth every single penny, and I know for a fact that I would repurchase it, should I ever need to!

Charlotte Tilbury Sculpt Brush
This is the best brush for contouring with. I don’t think that I have ever used this to highlight with, but for contouring it is the bomb. This is a tapered brush, and it really is precise on the end which makes it perfect for nestling into the hollows of my cheeks and making them look really sharp. I don’t think that I have ever used a brush that contours my face so effortlessly, the way that this brush does. I will say that over the last year or so, it has frayed a little on the ends, but I may put that down to me being a little too harsh when I wash it!

Real Techniques Contour Brush
I wanted this brush for such a long time, but I didn’t want to buy the rest of the whole Core Collection just to get it. In the end, I did get the whole Core Collection, and I have to admit that this is one of the only brushes that I use from that kit. This brush is a great cheap alternative for contouring and bronzing with. Because of its shape, there is no chance of you going overboard with it. Plus, because the bristles on the brush are pretty dense, it does all of the blending for you. I love reaching for this brush and with it being Real Techniques, you know it is a good quality brush.

Morphe E4
This is the only brush that I have in my collection that I ever add blush with. Because of the angle of the brush, it makes it just so easy and effortless to apply the product. Again, this is one of the Morphe Elite collection of brushes, so the overall quality is really nice, and it does the job perfectly. I think this brush is perfectly because it applies the product to the apple of the cheek, then the wider out bristles, defuse the product really nicely. I love this brush and I have no plans to upgrade it anytime soon.

Nars Ita Brush
Now, onto the last brush that I am going to mention, and one of my favourites. I reach for this brush all of the time. I had my eye on this brush for a really long time, but I just couldn’t commit to spending that kind of money on a brush that only had one sole purpose and that is to contour. If I want to get a really precise and quite sharp contour under my cheekbones, my jawline or even down the sides of my nose, then this is the brush that I reach for. I will say that it isn’t the softest brush in the world, but that really doesn’t bother me!

Anyway, there we go, all of my favourite makeup brushes in one place. As normal with all of the blog posts here, I will leave links down below in case you want to check anything out. If you want to see my full review of anything, just click the name of the product above to be taken to that page. Make sure to leave me a comment down below and let me know what makeup brushes you have been loving recently and I will be sure to check some of them out!
