My Go To Products For The Perfect Base

I know that I have said this time and time again here on my blog, but I am completely in love with base makeup. Even though I do love makeup as a whole and how it has the power to completely transform you, I in particularly love base products. When I look through the drawers of my vanity it is made up of almost 80% base makeup and the rest is products for eyes and lips. I don’t know what it is about products such as foundations and concealers, but whenever a new one is released, I have to buy it almost immediately or I feel like I am very much out of the loop and that is why I have such a huge and unnecessary collection.

So, I thought that for today’s blog post, I would share with you how I apply my base makeup in order to get a flawless finish that will last me throughout the whole day.  When it comes to my base makeup, I never do anything crazy. To ensure that my makeup lasts well all day long, I like to stick with products that I know work for me rather than keep switching it up. Also, by doing this it ensures that I don’t break out and that my skin stays nice and clear. Anyway, without further rambling on, here are the products that I use on a daily basis to ensure that I have a flawless and perfected base…

The first thing that I always go in with is my Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream. At first, I didn’t know whether to buy this moisturiser as much as I wanted it. The price tag of £70 just seemed quite extreme compared to some of the other moisturisers that you can find out there on the high-street. But, I heard nothing but good reviews about this Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream and I was desperate to get my hands on it. I have to admit, once I started to use it, I completely fell for it and I have worn it every single day since I first picked it up. And even though the price did put me off at one point, now I have tried it out for myself, I really do think that it deserves the high price tag.

The reason why I first went forward and bought this Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream was because my skin over the past year has completely changed to being incredible dry. I found that my makeup was clinging to certain areas of my face and I needed some moisturiser to combat them areas. I apply this before makeup, when I am removing my makeup and even at night before I get into bed. Not only does my makeup glide much easier onto the skin because of this cream, my skin looks hydrated, pumped and I have even seen a decrease in the pigmentation damage on my cheeks.

This was a product that I saw all over the likes of Instagram and YouTube for such a long time, but it never really appealed to me. I think it was because I didn’t understand why people were dripping it down their face and acting all dramatic about it, I guess that just put me off. In the end, I bought this because I was on the hunt for a good beauty oil and this was the most well known one at the time, plus it had really good reviews on Sephora. I saw this on Cult Beauty just before Christmas last year and I decided to treat myself to it in the Black Friday sales. I have to say that this has been one of my favourites ever since and I use it daily.

What I like to do with this Farsali Unicorn Essence, is once I have finished with my moisturiser, I go in with a small amount of this in my hands and I pat it into my face.  I like to pat it into my face because this way I don’t aggravate the skin with too much rubbing and it also makes sure that it goes nice and deep into the skin. I do try and concentrate the product just in the areas where I need some additional moisture such as in the centre of my forehead and on my cheeks. What I really love about these is that they do a great job at moisturising, but it doesn’t leave a greasy texture like some beauty oils can.

I could not write this post all about base products without at least mentioning my beloved Charlotte Tilbury Wonder Glow Primer. When I first saw Charlotte, Tilbury talk about this over on her YouTube and Instagram, I knew that I would have to buy it for myself. Anything that makes the skin look healthy and glowing is right up my street, so I bought this, and I have been completely obsessed with it ever since. I honestly cannot think of a single time over the past couple of years when I haven’t gone in with this primer before using my foundation. It just does something to the skin that looks stunning and makes me keep reaching for it.

When I apply this Charlotte Tilbury Wonder Glow, my skin looks so healthy. It doesn’t add a tint to the skin, but it adds a luminosity that makes you look so awake and fresh. I will wear this on its own without any makeup on top, or I will then go in with my foundation and concealer. I think this bottle set me back nearly £40, but you only need the smallest amount for the whole face and I am still on my first tube of this stuff. I know for a fact that I am going to love this for a very long time and it will always be one of my holy grail makeup products.

Once I have my Wonder Glow Primer in place, I will then go in with a mattifying primer. Even though my skin these days is much more dry than oily, I still do get my oily patches that I like to try and combat with a good primer. I know that to some people they may be a little shocked that I am talking about this Cover FX Mattifying Primer and not the Benefit Porefessional Primer, but I do have my reasons. As good as the Benefit Porefessional is at smoothing out skin and hiding my pores, I find that the Cover FX is much better with regards to oil control.

My nose is the part of my face that I would say is still very oily. Even though most of my face has turned to be drier, my nose can end up looking wet throughout the day. And I have found that the Cover FX Mattifying Primer is one of the only products that actually helps to control that and stops me looking like a happy dog with a wet nose throughout the day. Plus, the texture of the Cover FX Primer is so beautiful, and it makes the skin feel like pure silk. I just think that this is a great product and when I want a really flawless and perfected base, this is the product that I reach for.

Now onto the good stuff… foundation. Anybody who knows me or has followed my blog for some time will know that I am completely in love with foundations. Whenever a new foundation is released, I have to buy it and try it out for myself. Even though I was very late onto the bandwagon with this Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation, I am completely in love with it now and I cannot get enough of it. I can quite confidently say that it completely blows every other foundation that I have ever tried out of the water. I have been using this more or less none stop for the past 6 months and I know that it will be my go to for a very long time.

I adore pretty much every single thing about this foundation. The texture and the feel of this foundation purely is beautiful on the skin and it glides on so stunning. The coverage is full, but it is still lightweight on the skin as the name of the foundation suggests. This Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation lasts so well on the skin, without me having to touch it up throughout the day. I honestly think that it would take hell of a lot in order to beat this foundation and I cannot see anything doing it in a hurry. If you haven’t tried this product out before then I really cannot recommend it enough!

I know that everybody is probably very bored of hearing about this Tarte Shape Tape Concealer by now, but I cannot put it down at the moment. I did want to try and move onto something bigger and better after all of the controversy around the brand, but I am yet to find anything that is of the same quality with the same high level of coverage. This is a cult classic product for a reason and that is because of how stunning it is. I even have four of these sat on my shelf as backups because I tend to order them directly from Tarte when they have free shipping weekends.

This concealer quickly became my favourite after I started to use it.  The level of coverage that this Tarte Shape Tape Concealer gives is just on another level compared to every other concealer that I have used before. It hides all of my imperfections with one quick swipe and it blends into the skin like a dream. I use this primarily underneath the eyes and I find that it doesn’t crease, and it looks beautiful all day long when I set it with a good translucent powder. I have literally turned everybody that I know onto using this concealer and that is because it truly is a stunning product that I keep going back to.

Then for cream contouring it has to be my Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Contour Wand. This is such a stunning product and I was so excited when this was released last year. From the moment that I first received this through the mail, I have used it pretty much every single day since. I have this in the darkest shade and it really is the perfect contouring shade for my complexion. I have gone through so many of these this year and I know that I am going to carry on using this as part of my everyday base makeup. This is quite easily the most used contouring product that I have in my collection.

This is a stunning and creamy product that blends in so beautifully. No matter what other base combinations I wear this product with, it always looks out of this world. All you need is a couple dots of this product in order to get a really lovely looking contour. I have blended this in using my Beauty Blender or a brush and no matter what, it is always so beautiful. This is such an effortless product because it takes next to no effort in order for it to look beautiful on the skin. I even love how the product is applied with the squeezy tube with the sponge top applicator, it makes it incredible for travelling with.

The last thing that I am going to mention in this post is the Laura Mercier Translucent Powder. I know that you guys will have heard me mention this so many times here on my blog over the years, but that is because it is a truly stunning translucent powder. I reach for this all of the time and I don’t even want to begin to think about how much money I have spent on this product over the years. I know it must be in the hundreds, but I think that it is worth it because the quality is just beyond anything else that I have ever used before.

I am sure that most people will know that I really like the RCMA No Colour Powder, but that is a great low-cost powder for an everyday basis. This is a stunning powder for when I want my skin to look the best that it can possibly look. And, even though my skin is leaning towards the dry side of the spectrum and it used to be oilier, I still have to powder my skin every single day because it just keeps the products where I want them to be and looking their absolute best!

So, there you have it. These are the products that I have to have in my collection at all times. I will use these products on a daily basis and even if I am going out in an evening. I think once you find the products that work really well for you, you should stick with them. As normal, if you want to see my full review of anything that I have mentioned, just click the name of the item above to be taken to that page. I will also leave some links down below in case you want to check anything out for yourself. 5. Wow! A lot of good high-end products! I love Cover FX and I've heard a lot of good buzz, regarding their primer so it's not to say you don't have good judgement😊 It's good to see a list of high-end base products for a change, rather than drugstore(if you watch sophdoesnails, she tends to do more drugstore). Anyhow, thanks for sharing and happy July 4th!
