How To Get Increased Blog Traffic

In this post, I want to let you know some ways to try and get more traffic to your blog or website. I have done a couple posts similar to this over the past couple of years and they always seem to go down really well, so I thought that I would do you an updated version for today’s blog post. I always get nervous writing posts like this, because even though what I am saying can result in increased traffic, it really does come down to how much work people put into their blog or website. For my full-time job, I work in marketing, so I know a thing or two about traffic and how to get it. My opinions and methods may be slightly different to other people, but ultimately, the goal is always the same.  Anyway, here are my ways to generate more traffic to your blog.

Stay consistent
To keep people coming back to your blog time and time again, you need to stay consistent. If you upload too sporadically, people will get bored of coming back to see if you have posted. I recommend putting together a regular upload schedule. I always try to post a couple times a week at a minimum. I know that it can seem like hell of a lot of work, but if you want to see your visitor numbers increase then it is a step that you should take. Although with queuing available on most blogging platforms, it is easy to set a load of posts up and just let them do their thing. Even if you can only manage one blog post a week, it is better than nothing!

Share the same post more than once
One way to keep consistent and keep putting out content without creating more work for yourself is to re-share the same post more than once. We are all busy, so this is just one way to keep pumping out the fact that you upload regularly without all of the hassle that goes along with writing a blog post. Before re-uploading a post, I just always go back through it to make sure that my opinion is still the same about it is still the same and make any changes that I need, then I will just hit upload and I have day where I can take a step back knowing that everything is in place.

Guest post
A great way to get out there to more people is by guest posting with another blogger. This means that you write content, take images and then pass it onto to another blogger for them to upload on their page. Normally you do this for each other and it just helps to promote your blog out to new people who are following that other blog. Before I did my first guest blog post I was so nervous about what a new audience would think about me, but the spike in my traffic after the post went live was more than worth it. I was also terrified to start approaching people and ask if it was a possibility, but at the end of the day the worst that they can say is no and then you just move on and forget about it. It is always worth a go.

Use social media to your advantage
Now, this point may be a little hypocritical of me to mention because I don’t use social media for my blog, but it is a well while thing to do. If you have the time and the means to do it, I would advise you to create social media content for all of your posts, it is a great way of getting new visitors to your website. There is hell of a lot out there at the moment about social media and it is all worthwhile. The only reason I don’t use it is because of time. Look into hashtags that are relevant to your post, look at peak times to post on certain outlets. There is so much that can be done with social media, but the most important thing you can do is just keep putting your message out there!

Keep implementing SEO
I know that I have harped on about SEO so much here on my blog but that is just because it is so important if you want your blog to do well in organic search results. If you have read my previous post you will know that SEO is something that you have to implement at every stage of your blog, from the images right down to the content that you post, you just have to keep persevering and use it in every post that you upload. When you get to a stage where your blog or website is full of SEO rich content you should get a steady stream of organic readers that will come from searching for a topic in Google and your blog appearing and that is something to strive towards because you haven’t had to use any additional time or effort to get the people onto your site and that is what SEO is all about.

Analyse your keywords
I know I have mentioned this in my previous SEO posts, but it is so important to keep analysing and keeping your keywords relevant. There are so many keywords that you could use with a certain post, so it is worth carrying out some analysis before you set your post live. There are some great tools out there for doing this, Google even has its own keyword tool and you can just type in a phrase or a word and it comes up with all words relevant and how they perform and how often they are searched. By doing it just helps you know that the keyword that you are targeting are right for your post, your blog and for your audience. When I finally started using this post it made me realise some of the tricks that I had been missing and in some cases even doing it wrong. Even though this may be another step in an already long process of uploading a post it just helps you to narrow down your audience and get the organic visitors that you want.

Incorporate analytics to your blog
One of the most important things to use to actually notice trends in your traffic is Analytics. Google Analytics is a free service that you can use, and it tells you everything that you need to know to see how your blog or website is performing. I know by using Google Analytics it is like opening a new can of worms and having something new to learn about, but it is so worth it in the end. By using Google Analytics, you can help to see what posts have performed the best, what the peak times are on your blog, where your traffic is coming from, the demographic of your readers and so much more. There really is no limit to what Google Analytics can look at for you. It helps you to generate reports and from then you can start to notice trends and it you to notice what times you should be posting at and who you should be targeting.

Comment and be social on other blogs
A big way to get traffic onto your blog is by commenting on other blogs that are similar to your own. This way other people that are commenting can see a link to your blog and may want to check you out if they see that they have a similar interest of the blog that they are currently on. It is just a great way to reach an audience that you have some common ground with. When I first started blogging I didn’t want to do this because I felt really cheeky. But, not only does it promote you and your blog it helps you to meet and talk to new people. So many times, I have commented on a post and left a link to my blog and it has struck up a relationship with me and the person who owns the blog, it is a great work to network. Make sure though that when you are commenting on the posts that you aren’t just promoting your blog. If I am looking at blogs I will make sure that I actually have something to say to that person about them or their post. I find it quite rude when people come onto my blog and just leave their link in the comments and not say anything about the post. Just write your comment and sign off with your weblink.

Don’t give up!
Then for my final point I just want to tell you not to give up. This can all be really hard to get your head around, I have just been really lucky that this is my full-time job, so it just comes like second nature to me. Just make sure to take your time with it and just realistically see what you can do with the time that you have to do it in. If you do any of these steps I am sure that you will notice a difference. Don’t get disheartened through if it doesn’t happen straight away, it takes time for search engines and even people to notice us and want more. There will even be months where your visitors and engagement skyrocket and others where it is low, this is normal through the year. There will be times of high traffic and low, it just depends on the time of year and so many other factors. Just stick with it and persevere, it will work out in the end!

Just like everything in life, you just have to persevere to make it work. If you keep at it and try to keep things consistent and of a high quality, you will definitely see the results. Just like in my previous post, if you have any questions about anything that I have mentioned, or you want to know more about anything please do not hesitate to leave me a comment below and I will get right back to you.

  11. I feel like the social media side of blog admin can be so tedious. This doesn't apply to Instagram because I treat that platform as its own beauty blog but having to maintain so many different social media platforms and then being engaging on every one of those plus read as many blog posts as possible can be draining on some days. At times I wish I could clone myself and delegate each of my clones one task of blogging haha. x
