Farsali Unicorn Essence Review

I am pretty sure that this bottle of Farsali Unicorn Essence will need no introductions because I bet that you have already seen it mentioned in countless blogs and plastered all over YouTube and Instagram. When I first saw this, I wasn’t interested in it, not even the smallest amount. I hate products that are like a trend item such as this, I am sure you have all seen countless people online applying this with the dropper directly to their face and allowing it to run down their cheeks and make a hot mess. Because of that, I didn’t even want to see this product because it just irritated the living daylights out of me.

But, over the past couple of months my skin has gone through a big change. Where I used to be on the oily side of the spectrum, I am now teetering on the combination/dry side. Even though I have to admit that I am quite happy to get rid of my oily skin, all of the makeup I own is for mattifying and oily skin, so I need a product to help balance my skin out and make it nice and hydrated. I have been using lashings of moisturiser, whether it be my Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream or the La Mer Moisturiser, but I feel like my skin needs something a little different and that is why I have bought this Farsali Unicorn Essence.

First thing that I want to touch on in this review is the packaging. I do like the bottle and the dropper applicator. Do I think that the packaging reflects on the £50 price tag? I would have to say no. I like that it is a dropper and because it gives you good control over how much product you are using and for how much the product costs, I want to have control of it. I will say that the bottle has got a little oily over time, but that isn’t too much of a big deal, it just isn’t the easiest thing to wipe with a been a frosted bottle. Like I said though, that really isn’t very much of a big deal.

I like to use this product after I have applied my moisturiser and just on the areas where I am dry. I apply some to my fingertips and then I gently pat it into my forehead and onto my cheeks, making sure to keep it away from my nose and t-zone where I get quite oily. Once, I have pat this into the skin using my fingertips I will just leave it to soak into the skin for a couple of minutes before going in with me of my other primers of concealers. I treat this product as more of a skincare item for after my moisture, than a primer.

What I have been loving about this Farsali Unicorn Essence is that it feels like a really nourishing oil on the skin, but it isn’t greasy, you cannot leave any residue left behind and it gives your skin a really lovely glow. On the days where I don’t wear makeup, I still tend to go in with a touch of this on top of my moisturiser to further hydrate my skin and make my skin look lovely and glowing.

I also find that this gives me a really beautiful and even base for me to start going in with my foundation. It helps to hydrate my dry areas and it gives me a really smooth and blank canvas for me to start going in with other products and that is exactly what I wanted from this product. Like I said earlier on in this post, this did cost me £50, which is a pretty extortionate amount of money for a beauty oil, but I have to be honest and say that I don’t mind paying that for a quality of this product. I even think that once this product has run out, I will be more than happy to spend another £50 on another bottle.

This product really did surprise me. I went into this review with a very negative opinion of it from just looking at it from face value. But I really do love this product and I know that I am going to continue to use it for a very long time. I will leave a link to this down below in case you want to check it out. Make sure to leave me a comment down below if you have tried this and let me know what you thought about it. If you have any other beauty oils that you swear by that are cheaper than this, leave me a comment and I will be sure to check them out!

  1. I have always wondered about this, and yes that trend of making it look like tears or whatever has definitely been overdone! It does sound like something I might use with my dry skin, but the price tag is still putting me off, hopefully there's a drugstore version soon x

  3. Interesting. I always thought of this as more of a primer, which I almost never use. I didn't realize it's more of a moisturizer. I might have to check it out!

  8. The packaging looks nice but yeah it is very expensive. I also don't really see the purpose of it personally, as I feel like there are so many more great similar products out there.
