My Time In Paris

If anybody follows me on Instagram, then you may know that last month I went to Paris. I have never made a secret about how much I love Paris and I have wanted to plan a trip back there for the longest time. It has been on the cards for my boyfriend and I to go back for a really long time, but the past 6 months have been pretty crazy, and we haven’t had a chance to go anywhere. After my grandad passed away at the end of 2017, I needed something to look forward to, so one night when I was on my laptop in bed, I just went for it and booked it. I really needed something to countdown to and look forward to through all of the doom and gloom. And let me tell you right now, the trip was manic.

We went to Paris the first weekend in March. Which, if you may recall was when the ‘Beast from the East’ stuck England. For the whole week, we were stranded in the house and watching the weather report to see if we were going to get there. At the last minute our Eurostar train was cancelled which lead to an 8 hour wait in St Pancras station which was a total nightmare. We left the house on March 1st at 6am and we didn’t get to our hotel in Paris until 2am the following morning. We have had some very bad luck when it comes to travelling, but I think that one was right up there with the most laughable of them all!

On the Friday, we had a lovely long lay in. It isn’t very often that we get to just lounge around and be lazy, so we really did make the most of it. When we finally decided to drag ourselves out of bed and get ready, the first place that I wanted to go was to the Louvre. I don’t know what it is about the Louvre, but every single time I go to Paris, I have to go there straight away. I just love the grandeur of it all and the architecture of the new and the old together I think is simply stunning. Plus, the history nerd inside of my is absolutely obsessed with all of the treasures that it houses. I was running around like a kid at Christmas and acting like a tour guide for my boyfriend.

Once we had walked around the Louvre until we got blisters on our feet we headed out and went for some pasta. I was really in the mood for pasta and luckily for me, there are more Italian restaurants in Paris than there are traditional French restaurants. I don’t know what it is about Paris but with the food front, things seem to either be incredible and stupidly overpriced, or they look quite grotty from the outside. It is hard to find a good middle range place!

Then on the Friday evening, we went to watch Liam Gallagher in concert. We had wanted to see Liam Gallagher in concert here in the UK, but it was like gold dust trying to get the tickets and when we found out that he was going to be in Paris at the same time as us, it was like fate. We headed to L’Olympia to watch him and it was bloody amazing. The atmosphere was just electric, and I had far too much to drink. I found it a little strange watching a concert like that in a place like Paris. There was a very obvious English and French divide. The English people were going crazy, much like me with lots of dancing and singing. The French people seemed to stay seated and even had ear plugs in, which I found very bizarre. It didn’t stop me though, even though I felt a multitude of daggers being thrown at me, apparently women in Paris don’t drink pints of beer, how strange?

After the concert, we walked back through the streets of Paris towards our hotel and went to see the Eiffel Tower at night. It was so stunning and naturally we had to wait for the change of the hour for it to sparkle. I just wish that I had been a touch soberer so that I could have grabbed my bag to take a photo of it. It is probably a good job that I didn’t though because the chances of me losing my phone were quite high!

We woke up the next morning with a thick head and a craving for pastry. We dragged our rough asses out of our bed and headed out into Paris. I knew that whilst I was out I wanted to do some shopping, so I put on a nice dress and a pair of heels, so I didn’t stick out like a sore thumb whilst I was waltzing down Avenue Montaigne. We went up to the Arch De Triumph, because I adore the Cartier boutique up in that direction. From there, we then walked down towards the Eiffel Tower and had a spot of lunch. In the end, I was well prepared to walk back to our hotel, but I had close to 16 bags of shopping and we were struggling to walk, so we had no choice other than to hail a taxi.

When we has back at the hotel and sat down, my feet were killing. My Manolo Bhlanik are incredibly comfortable, but they aren’t designed for walking close to 6 miles and I was feeling pain from my feet all the way up to my calves. I hopped straight into the shower and then hopped in my pyjamas. By this point, I was shattered and all I wanted was food. Luckily, my lovely other half headed out and smuggled us a McDonalds into our incredibly fancy hotel, which was what I needed. We put a movie on the TV, ate our fast food and laid in bed with our view of the Eiffel Tower.

On the Sunday, we headed back home. Luckily on the way back, the trip was hell of a lot smoother and it only took us a couple of hours just like it should. I am already planning my next trip to Paris because I really do love it. I may have to leave it until next year though because my bank balance really did take a hit on this trip!
