My Essential Blogging Tools

I have been blogging now for about 3 years and I feel like I have it down to a fine art. Don’t get me wrong, when I first started out, I didn’t have a clue what I was doing. I thought that I would just get by, blogging here and there and just doing it as I pleased. I quickly realised that for any kind of success in this vast blogging world, where so many of us are talking about the same thing, I was going to have to up my game. To start with, I looked to other bloggers for inspiration on how I can get organised and up my blogging game. There are so many posts out there about organising your blog and steps that you can take, and I spent some time creating a plan and organising everything. I took some of what other people said and turned it into what I can deal with and what works for me and I came up with my organisation schedule that I still run with today.

Even though hell of a lot of it does come down to being organised, I could not run my blog without a few essential tools in my arsenal. These things just seem to work for me and I do not think that I could run my blog without them. They just seem to make my workload easier and everything is at my fingertips with these items. So, for this post, I thought it might be fun to share some of the items that I reach for on a daily basis when I’m blogging. I know that some of these items are super expensive, but I wouldn’t mention them if I didn’t think that they were necessary to my blog. Anyway, without further rambling on, here are my essential blogging tools.

Notebook
I am obsessed with writing things down. Because of my OCD, my brain is always switched on and running at 100%. I just cannot seem to switch my mind off, which means that ideas and things to do are always running through my mind. The way that I cope the best with this and have learnt to manage it, is to write things down. As something randomly pops into my head, I will quickly jot it down and then I know for a fact that I will not forget it. Normally it ends up being more of a scribble, but at least them my idea is down on paper, because if I think of something and then forget it, I will have a full-blown break down. In my notebook I also write my daily to do lists and then I can strike things off as and when I have finished things.

MacBook
I had been thinking of buying a MacBook for such a long time before I finally just went for it and bought one. Obviously, the price of it was what put me off. I had always had a normal Windows laptop and it worked really well for me. But, as my blog seemed to get busier and generate more traffic, I wanted something that would make blogging on the go possible. I had my eye on this MacBook, mainly because it was stunning and gold and would match my iPhone and iPad and things like that make me incredibly happy. This MacBook really is a godsend. I bought the smallest one, which is just the normal MacBook, I was considering the MacBook Air, because it is slightly cheaper, but in the end, I went for this one and I am hooked with it. I pretty much always have this in my bag because it is compact and lightweight. I even carried it around with me in Paris last month!

iPad
I bought this iPad before I committed and bought my MacBook. At first, I wanted this just to watch movies and use when I am out and about for other things. Little did I know that this would become my go to thing for just about everything. I can write my posts on here, store my images, respond to emails and like I said, just about everything. I thought after I bought my MacBook, that I wouldn’t really have a need for my iPad, but it is still glued to my hands pretty much all of the time. I know that to most people it probably is a little unnecessary to own both an iPad and a MacBook, but it just helps me, and I love both of them so much!

Google Drive
Now, onto one of my favourite things that I really cannot live without. When I first started blogging, I would just keep everything on my laptop, all of my posts were saved in Word documents and my images were just in folders on my desktop. I didn’t think anything of it until I dropped my laptop down the stairs and it completely died. I lost pretty much everything that I had ever done for me blog. To say that I was heartbroken was an understatement. I didn’t want to carry on with my blog after that, but then I discovered Google Drive and I was obsessed. With this, everything is backed up to the cloud and I can log into my Google Drive on any device across the world and I can access everything!

Google Keep
I know that I mentioned earlier that I am obsessed for my notebook, but this is my step towards the 21st century. Google Keep is basically just a notes app for your phone, but when I use this I can sync all of my devices together and even access them on my computer/MacBook. For the most part of the day, I am sat in front of a computer, so I just make sure to have a tab open with my Google Keep up, in case something pops into my head. Even though I do still love writing things down, I love making plans and lists on this because I can move things about much more freely.

So, there you have it, my essential blogging tools. I tried to keep this one short compared to some other blog posts that I have done over the past couple of weeks. With all of these things, I can manage and write for my blog, wherever and whenever I want to. Like I said at the start of this post, I know that some of these items can cost a lot of money, but I think that they make a huge difference to the way I blog and what I can achieve. With these items, I can blog when I am in the car, on holiday and even on my lunch break at work. I genuinely think that every single item is worth its weight in gold. I would love to hear about some of your favourite blogging tools and the things that you swear by!

  2. I can't live without an iPad when it comes to blogging! They're so easy to edit photos and write on, especially on the go. I might consider upgrading to a MacBook one day :)

  6. Notebook is also a must for me cause I love writing things down - and I organize it better this way! It´s so funny how we all start and think that blogging is just a thing you do whenever you feel like, and it turns out to be soooooooo much work! Pleasant work...but still work! And you'd never believe how much time it actually takes unless you have your own blog!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  10. I always have to have everything in a notebook as well. Whenever I think of a blog post idea I have to write it down with all the products I want to include so I don't forget any to take photos of etc! I could really do with an ipad when I'm travelling because I can't write any blog posts on my phone, it's so annoying! xx

  15. I honestly don't use a lot of electronic note-keeping devices, I much prefer jotting down my blogging ideas and schedule on paper! I keep a few note books and it just makes me feel so organised!

I love how organised you are though. I think finding a balance between paper and electronics is key to keep your mind clear ;-)
