Why I Started My Blog

A question that I get asked pretty much every single day, is why did I start my blog? My friends and family ask this question more than anybody else because they are the people that see all of the energy and stress that can go into my blog. To them, it may seem a little pointless me writing posts and uploading them to my blog, but they obviously don’t see what I do. When I first started my blog, I did it with the sole intention of helping other beauty addicts out like me, and that is still very true today, years down the line. But I continue to do it for so many reasons and not just the opportunities, money or the lovely people that I get to socialise with.

Another of the main reasons why I wanted to start my blog was just for something to do. I have never made any secret that I suffer with anxiety, it is something I have had for many years, and I have had to learn to deal with it. Due to my anxiety, I don’t have many friends and I am very select with who I let into my life and open up with. But this also means that I can get very lonely. I am happy with the people that I have in my life and they are wonderful people but having a small group means that there isn’t a lot going on. So, my blog was just a way to pass the time. I wanted to try and be a little pro-active. Little did I know that at the time, I would get to talk to so many incredible people.

Fashion and makeup has always been an escape for me. Before I met my current boyfriend, my first serious relationship was pretty toxic. It was like we needed each other, which is never a healthy thing. We were together for such a long time that we just stayed together even though all of the love was gone, which just turned things nasty. It was abusive and controlling and we were together for all of the wrong reasons, and playing with makeup and putting outfits together got me through. It just took me away from everything that was happening and I really needed that at the time. Even now, sitting down and working on my blog just makes me forget about everything that I have going on in my life.

Not to mention that over the past couple of years I have spent so much money on makeup and I thought with that, I may as well try and help somebody out. People could learn from my many mistakes when it comes to makeup by reading my brutally honest reviews. Before I buy new makeup items, I always check out blogs and read some reviews, I just find it so helpful and it has kept me from making so many mistakes over the years. And, I know that hell of a lot of people review the same items, but it is so much better to get more than one opinion because everybody has different skin and what works for one person, might not work for another. If I can help one person out with my blog, then I am more than happy with that!

Plus, once my blog has been live for a while, I got the bug for it. I loved seeing posts go live and all of my hard work being out there for people to see and read. I know that I can probably look effortless all of this blogging, but it can take such a long time to start from a blank canvas and then get a post set live. You have the content to create, proof reading, photography, editing, uploading and linking. It is hell of a lot to think about it, but so worth it when you push the publish button and you start to receive feedback from people. That is one of the main thing that has spurred me on to keep going and trying to improve my blog over the past couple of years.

Another huge part of blogging that I never really took into account was the community of people. It is so nice to get to speak to people that love the same things I do. You just seem to instantly hit it off with people when you have a blog because you instantly have something in common with each other. When I first started blogging, I feel like it was a little but like ‘you can’t sit with us’, kind of thing and I was pretty intimidated. But, I realised that most of it was in my head and it was my anxiety that was getting the better of me. Now that I have been at this for a couple years I have made some great friends and people that I can really open up to, it is so lovely to have internet friends!

One of the main reasons why I started my blog was because of my dream job. I hope that one day I am working in the Vogue offices, dressed up all chic in high end fashion and getting to write about reviews and trends, that is the dream. With this, it is just a step in the right direction. Getting to speak about something I love is a great feeling, even if the audience isn’t quite on Vogue level!

  1. It's important to dream. I felt like I had so much stuff and enjoyed it that I might as well put it to good use and do something constructive with it!

  2. I just loved the Idea! I always looked up to the YouTubers but I was to anxious to upload videos so I think blogging was the perfect inbetween as I could do everything I wanted to do as a YouTuber but by writing and I feel much more comfortable.

  4. I think I started a blog because I wanted to share my thoughts, especially on beauty products. I loved reading what people had to say in their reviews and I knew I'd enjoy writing my own!
