Makeup Forever Step 1 Mattifying Primer Review

As a girl with oily skin, I have tried and used so many different products over the years to try and combat the issue. After seeing this Makeup Forever Step 1 Mattifying Primer mentioned countless times over on YouTube, I knew that I had to try it out for myself to see if it helps my oily ass skin. I have been using this for a couple of months now and I have to say that I have been loving it and it does a really great job of mattifying the skin and keeping my oils at bay. So, I thought that in this blog post, I would share my thoughts with you on this primer and let you know a little more about it.

I have always steered well clear of primers. I don’t know what it was about them, but they just didn’t appeal to me, which is crazy considering how much I love makeup and how much of it I wear. I just always thought of primers of been a little bit of a fad. I thought it was just a money-making scam by big brands to get people to spend more money with them. Especially when brands say that their foundation works best when you buy the matching primer, I just didn’t believe a word of it and I always stayed well clear. But, I guess that curiosity got the better of me and that is why I started to try them out.

After trying a couple different primers over the past year, I now realise why people wear them and I find that they make the biggest difference to my skin, so that is why I am so excited to have my hands on this Makeup Forever Step 1 Mattifying Primer. All I do is take a small pea-sized amount onto my fingertips. I will then rub it in between my fingers to warm the product up a touch and then I will pat it into my skin where I feel like I have excess oils that I want to try and control. I will then just leave it 5 or 10 minutes if I can before I go in with my foundation to give it time to settle into the skin.

When you squeeze this product out of the tube, it is easy to see straight away that it is a very thick product. When you compare this with the Benefit Porefessional Primer, it is much thicker in consistency, but not so much that it is uncomfortable. Because of the consistency of it, I find that it is really good at filling in the pores and making them feel smooth and flawless with the rest of your skin. The texture of the product is the main reason why I like to press it into the skin because with it being thick, I would want to drag it on the skin. If you are an oily girl like me, I think this is just perfect.

Straight away from applying this Makeup Forever Step 1 Mattifying Primer, you can see it make the skin appear matte. I find that throughout the day while I am wearing this primer, my skin stays perfected and matte for hell of a lot longer than it does with any other primer in my collection. With my other matte or oil free primers, I feel like I still have to blot and touch up throughout the day, but I don’t feel like I have to with this primer. I can apply this at 7am in the morning and by 8pm my skin will look glowing, but not overly oily or greasy, which is perfect for me.

I have tried this Makeup Forever Primer with so many different base products, whether it be foundations, concealers and powder and it seems to perform absolutely beautifully with everything that I throw at it. The thing with a brand like Makeup Forever is that it is a professional makeup brand that’s soul focus is in creating good products rather than a silly collection like some other of the newer brands do. I have got quite a few Makeup Forever products in my makeup collection and I adore all of them because they all are of such a high quality.

Anyway, I will round this post up here before I end up droning on for forever and a day. I think that this primer is absolutely amazing, and I have been loving reaching for it lately. This fills in my pores like a dream, it keeps me nice and matte and my makeup glides on so beautifully and smoothly. I know that this is going to be a permanent in my makeup collection for a very long time to come. I will leave a link to this product down below in case you want to check it out for yourself. Make sure to leave me a comment and let me know if you have tried this out and what you thought about it!

  2. I haven't delved much into Makeup Forever, only their lipsticks but now that you can easily get your hands on it, like you said in Debenhams, I really want to! I have dry skin so I wonder if this would work for me as well as sometimes matte primers can be a bit too drying! Glad it works for you though! xx
