Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer Review - SX12

I have lusted over the Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancers for such a long time. They have been something that has been on my wish list since day one. I can remember once watching a Wayne Goss video and he mentioned this product and since then I have been desperate to get my hands on them and try them out for myself. But back when I first saw these I was about 15 and in no way could afford a nearly £40 for a foundation or concealer. If I went up to my mum or dad and asked for that much money for Kevyn Aucoin they would have laughed at me.

Even now in my early 20’s and earning my own money I just couldn’t really justify spending that much money on something that is smaller than a film canister. But I have heard nothing but amazing things about these Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancers, so I thought it was about time that I just bit the bullet and bought one. So, I got this one through Cult Beauty and I think I paid £38 for it. I couldn’t believe it when it got delivered just how small it was. The only words to describe this is teeny tiny. It fits in the palm of my hand with more than enough room around it.

The Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer contains 18g of product. This compared to normal foundations is nearly half the amount. Most standard foundations are 30ml equivalent to 30g. I know one of the uses of this can be for concealer so in that respect there is a good amount of product. But, this product does claim to be incredibly pigmented, so it is to be assumed that the smallest amount of this foundation can go a very long way, that is what I had heard about it online anyway!

When I first opened this up and I swatched it on the back of my hand, I couldn’t quite believe how thick it was. It is that thick that it was even pretty difficult to swatch onto the back of my hand. I found that as the heat from my hand warmed up the product, it did make the product much easier to move and work with. I will say that as I swatched this on my hand, the level of coverage that I saw for it was just out of this world. With the smallest amount, you couldn’t see the tiny pores on the back of my hand and my skin looked incredibly balanced and even.

I bought this in the shade SX12 because I wanted to use this as a foundation. When I first opened it and tried it out, I didn’t think that it would work because of how thick it is, but I made it work for me. I have areas of hyperpigmentation on my skin, particularly around my cheeks and that is why I wanted something like this with ultimate coverage. I had found that with a normal foundation, it covered my issues mildly, but my skin could look quite muddy and patchy where you could still see areas of darkness and that is why I opted for this Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin enhancer.

I did initially try to use this just as a standard foundation all over the face. I took small amounts of this on a spatula and dotted it all over the face. I then took my Morphe M439 Buffing Brush and tried to work it into the face. Even though it did blend out, it was pretty tough to do and to get it to look even because of the thick consistency. When it was all over the face, it felt very heavy. I felt like I had 100 layers of foundation on my face and that isn’t a very nice feeling. But I will admit that everything was completely covered and my skin looked like porcelain.

I quickly found that my favourite way to wear this foundation was by mixing it in with some moisturiser. I would take some of my Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream on a palette and then dot a small amount of this in, mix it together and then apply it to the face. This way, I could build up the coverage just in the areas where I really needed it and it was much lighter and more comfortable on the skin. This is the way that I have been wearing this product and I have to admit that by applying it in this way it has quickly become one of my favourite foundations from my collection. If I do feel like my skin is heavy I will just go in with my damp Beauty Blender to help absorb any excess product.

My only negative that I have to say about this Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer is that it does have a certain scent to it and it isn’t very pleasant. Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t an awful scent and it isn’t anything that anybody else, but you can certainly smell it while you are applying it. But, when I have set everything with powder and I have finished my makeup, I can no longer smell it, which I guess is all that matters really.

I have used this Kevyn Aucoin product now as a foundation for well over a month and I love it. I know that I will make sure that I always have one of these in my makeup bag, if not for a foundation all over my face but just to conceal my problem areas. I really cannot recommend this product highly enough. I can see this small tub lasting me for a very long time because the level of pigmentation really is like nothing that I have tried before. I will leave a link to this down below in case you want to check it out for yourself. Make sure to leave me a comment and let me know if you have tried this and what you thought about it!

  1. I've wanted this for so long too but saw it in the shop once and it put me off as it was so tiny, but now you've convinced me again! I think I'd find this too much as foundation but it'd be really useful to always have for any pesky blemishes!
