MAC Pro Longwear Foundation Review

I have been a fan of the entire MAC Pro Longwear range for the longest time, but I had never tried the popular Longwear Foundation, so I thought that it was about time that I went out and bought it. I did a post not that long ago around the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer and I think I made it quite clear that I really love that concealer, so I had very high hopes for this foundation. Plus, I have tried many other products from the Pro Longwear range of products, including their eyeshadows and lip liners and everything seems to perform really well, so I couldn’t wait to try this out for myself.

I want to start this post out by being honest with you guys and by letting you know that the MAC Pro Longwear Foundation for me personally, is a miss. I loved the Pro Longwear Concealer so much, I genuinely thought that the foundation would follow suit, maybe my expectations for this were far too high. Then again, I have seen so many people review this foundation online and they seemed to love it, so this might just be my experience with this MAC Pro Longwear Foundation, but I just couldn’t get this to work for me, my skin and my texture. I will share with you my thoughts on this foundation…

First up, I want to speak about the first thing that I talk about in all of my reviews and that is the packaging. I love that the top of the packaging has a twist top that locks it into place and stops anymore product from coming out. I think that is great for travelling with because so often I open my makeup bag and there is foundation everywhere. The only downside to the packaging is that it is glass, so on the other hand it isn’t great to travel with because if it gets thrown around in a suitcase then it could quite easily smash. For a foundation just to sit in your vanity, I think it is great the packaging.

Another thing I liked about this MAC Pro Longwear Foundation was the consistency and coverage that it gives me. It is a lovely creamy texture, I would say a perfect blend between MAC Face and Body and MAC Studio Fix Fluid. So, I find that it is very easy and manageable. My favourite way to apply this foundation is with my traditional foundation brush and then I blend it in using my trusty Beauty Blender. With one layer of foundation applied in this way, I will have a medium finish and I will have to go in with just a touch more product on my problem areas to get a good full coverage.

Before I found that way of applying the foundation I have to say that I did have some issues with how this product went on the skin. I could never get a nice even layer of it. To me it always looked patchy, it sat in my pores and really accentuated them and clung to dry patches. I also feel that with this foundation, I have to really work it into my skin in order for it to look good, which I just don’t have the time to do when I am in a rush in a morning before work.
I also thought that this Pro Longwear Foundation oxidises like a right bitch. I can apply one light layer of this with my foundation brush and I will blend it out, then by the time that I am going in with a touch more product to build up the coverage, it will look like a completely different colour on my skin. I also find that throughout the day it just seems to get darker and darker. By the end of the day when I take this off, I must be a good 4 shades darker than when I first put it on and it just looks horrendous. I have looked in the mirror sometimes and I feel embarrassed that I am out of the house with my makeup looking like that.

I really wish that I could round this post off by saying that I loved this foundation, but I just don’t. The negatives for me, more than outweigh the positives and for that reason, I know that I am not going to be reaching for this foundation over others that I have in my collection. But, if you are interested in this foundation, I would recommend that you go into store and pick up a sample. Just because this didn’t work for me, doesn’t mean that it won’t work for you either. I will leave a link to this foundation down below in case you want to check it out for yourself. Make sure to leave me a comment and let me know if you have tried this foundation and what you thought about it!
