My Day Trip To Whitby!

This is kind of an impromptu blog post. I wasn’t planning on posting today because I have already posted a lot this week and I don’t want to annoy you guys but I had such a lovely day yesterday that I just wanted to let you guys know about it.

As most of you know I live in Yorkshire in the UK. It is an absolutely stunning place and I think if you live here like me, it is easy to take it for granted. Near enough wherever you are in Yorkshire you are within an hour’s drive of the coast, a big city or the countryside.

On Saturday me and my boyfriend drove across to Whitby in North Yorkshire over on the east coast. It is his birthday tomorrow and we just wanted to do something different. We have both been to Whitby before and we love it so we wanted to go together.

I also know that a lot of you guys who are reading this are located here in the US so I just wanted to share a little slice of the UK with you!

For us to get there it is about two hours away from home but it is well worth the driving to have a nice day out at the coast. We do have other seaside towns closer such as Skegness or Cleethorpes but I just find the North Yorkshire coasts much nicer.

So we set off nice and early but we hit quite bad traffic and didn’t end up getting there until nearly lunch time. It was a pain in the arse to get parked. We didn’t think about it been the first weekend in the summer holidays or the fact that it was going to be the hottest day of the year so far.

Anyway, once we were out of the car we went on a nice and slow walk down the harbour wall. I knew for a fact that I wanted to try the Quayside Fish and Chips. They are apparently the best fish and chips in the world and I have been on a no carb, no sugar and a no fat diet for ages so I needed to over indulge in this. The picture doesn’t even do a justice on how it was, I need you guys to try it out!

Once we were both suitably full to the point we thought we were going to burst we thought we better go for a walk and work some of the dinner off. I knew for a fact that I wanted to go up to the whale bones. I can remember going there as a little girl and I just loved them so much. They didn’t seem as big as what I remember but I’ve obviously ages 10 years since I was last here!

We then just took a bench at the top and just spent some time sat there. I have never seen the sky in the UK look so blue or the sea for that matter, it was just such as beautiful day. There were lots of boats in the water and families on the beach and it was just such a nice place to sit for a while.

We then set off walking again around the whole harbour and more or less back to where we started. Then we sat a boat trip and thought why not. We genuinely turned into fully pledged tourists for 20 minutes. It was fun, but the water was really choppy and I we got splashed, but it was fun and we saw some really pretty sights.

Once we were off the boat we decided to take a walk to the other side of the bridge. Over the there are some lovely Whitby Jet jewellery shops so we just walked around and window shopped and tried to find somewhere to sit outside and have a drink. But, we failed on every front. Everybody had the same idea as us by wanting to sit outside so we went on an hours walk just to find a sit down, but it was 30ºC so we couldn’t complain!

We did want to go up the Abbey but the queue for it was all the way down the 199 steps and we have both been up before so we didn’t really feel the need to do it again with a huge wait.

After we found somewhere to have a drink it was time for an ice cream. After doubling back on ourselves and heading back towards the whale bone we found somewhere that did whippy 99’s so I well and truly spoilt my diet by over indulging. We then had a trek back to the car before we set off home!

I know this wasn’t a long or particularly interesting post but I just wanted to show you guys how gorgeous the Yorkshire coast can be and I highly recommend you try to go because it is stunning and steeped in so much history!
