MAC Matchmaster Foundation Review

I think that this was one of the first MAC foundations that I have ever used, and I was sure that I had already done a review for my blog, but it turns out that I hadn’t. After trying the MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation and absolutely loving it, I slowly started working my way through the entire MAC foundation range. I will admit that I really liked using most of them, but it was this MAC Matchmaster foundation that really made me stop in my tracks. This foundation quickly became one of my most used makeup products and I think for a spell I even used this for almost an entire year straight.

I did really love using this foundation and then one day I went out for a family meal and my nan complimented my makeup and said how lovely my skin looked and I was wearing this foundation. I am sure that my nan is very similar to other elderly women of a similar age, where she speaks her mind even if it is rude because she is over the 60-year-old threshold. So, to actually get a compliment from her was quite a feat in my eyes and that was one of the main reasons why I continued to wear this foundation because even my biggest critic likes how it looks on the skin!

First up, I want to talk about the packaging. I think by now we should all know that I am sucker when it comes to a product with nice packaging and it was no different with this MAC Matchmaster Foundation. Like the MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation, it has a lovely and sleek glass bottle. I love how a glass bottle looks, even if it isn’t great for travelling with. I love that it has a pump built into it and that you can twist the top of the pump in order to lock it so that no extra product comes out while you are on the move or even while this is in your makeup bag.

Now onto the product itself. The first thing that I really want to touch on about the product is that there is a pretty limited colour range. There are 12 shades in the range, which is pretty limited. In the MAC Studio Fix range, you have 46 shades all with different undertones, so the MAC Matchmaster in comparison is pretty limited. Also, it is rather lacking in ultra-light and deep shades, with far too many medium shades in the middle. I didn’t have a problem finding my shade, but I know that hell of a lot of people do have an issue with this and I kind of expected more from a large brand like MAC.

The coverage of this foundation is very nice. I would say that overall it is a medium finish foundation with the capability to blend it up to a full coverage. I will say that even with packing on additional product to up the coverage, it will never be an intense coverage, but it covers almost 95% of everything that I want to be covered. I find that for an everyday basis this is more than enough and that is why I have been using it so much over the past year or so. Also, with this having a nice medium coverage, it is good for spot concealing to up the coverage in specific areas rather than going in with another layer.

The consistency of this foundation is lovely and thin, which makes it very wearable. I would say that the consistency lies somewhere between MAC Studio Fix and L’OrĂ©al True match for reference. It isn’t so thick that it can holds its form when it is dispensing, and I also don’t think that it is half as watery as the True Match. I think that it really is a standard consistency for a foundation which makes it nice for blending into the skin and getting a lovely and natural finish on the skin. This isn’t a matte foundation, I would say that it is on the satin side of things because it sits beautifully but it isn’t overly dewy!

I do like this foundation and I have honestly been using it for the best part of a year. I think that the standard is very good, I can apply this in a morning and it will still look good 8 hours later when I get in from work. I love how it looks on the skin and I know that I am going to continue using it. I will make sure to leave a link to this down below in case you want to check it out for yourself. Make sure to leave me a comment and let me know if you have tried this foundation and what you thought about it!
