My Favourite Makeup of 2017

I cannot believe that I am laid here in bed writing my first blog post of 2018. Last year just seemed to fly by so unbelievably quickly, it feels incredibly strange to already be referring to 2017 as last year already. But, I thought to start off my year, I would do a roundup of all my favourite makeup products of 2017. I bought far too much makeup last year and my plan this year is to try and reign my spending in a little, but before that particular new year’s resolution starts, I thought I would share some of my favourite products from the past 12 months. I know that hell of a lot of these products came out well before 2017, they were just my most used makeup products through the year.
As normal, this post will be quite heavy on the base products. If you have followed my blog for some time, you will probably know that I spend most of my money on face makeup products. In a morning when I am getting ready I can spend half an hour on my base makeup and then only 10 minutes on everything else. To me, if my base looks good, then I’m not bothered what anything else looks like. I tend to spend my money mainly on foundations and then I go for concealers, powders and bronzers. Anyway, without any further rambling on, here are my favourite makeup products of 2017.

I am sure that it will be no surprise to you guys that I am mentioning the Nars Sheer Glow Foundation in this post. Through 2017, I am pretty sure that I mentioned this post in near enough every single favourite post that I uploaded. I wasn’t sure about this foundation to start with. I thought with my oily complexion that it just wouldn’t work out. Then I saw it mentioned all over blogs and YouTube and I just decided to bite the bullet and give it a go. So, I logged straight onto the Space NK website and decided to treat myself. After a struggle trying to find the right shade for me, I settled on the shade Syracuse and I fell totally in love with it.
The first thing that I fell in love with was the shade. I have a deep/olive complexion and the shade Syracuse is just perfect for me. I don’t find that it oxides through the day and it just looks pretty from first thing in the morning to the last thing at night. The way it blends into the skin is just so seamless and it looks so natural for a high coverage foundation. I have bought this same foundation in the same shade countless times because it just works like an absolutely dream. Whether it is for everyday use or a special occasion, this is the foundation that I reach for time and time again. If you haven’t tried this before, I would highly recommend giving it a go, I can guarantee that you will adore it.

As soon as I saw this on the Charlotte Tilbury Instagram page, I knew that I had to try it out straight away. Anything that is Charlotte Tilbury I have to try out but when it is cream/liquid contouring products, I knew that it was going to be a firm favourite of mine. I signed up to her mailshot and the moment that I received the email saying that you could log onto her website to buy, I instantly went on and bought myself one. I even paid through the nose to get this product the next day and that shows just how excited I was to give it a go.
When I got it the next day in the mail, I had to instantly try it out. Waiting until 5pm until I got home from work to swatch it and try it out was bloody hard work. From the minute, I gave this a go, I was in love with it. The shade, consistency and how it blends is just like no other contouring product that I have used before. I have turned everybody onto this product and I swear by it. It has quickly become a part of my everyday makeup routine because it is just so quick and easy to use. I think the next time I order this, I am going to have to stock up on it, in fear that they will one day discontinue this product. I have the shade Deep in this and it is perfection!

I saw this Lancôme mascara all over the internet, and I am sure that you guys saw it as well. It was purely the packaging that intrigued me to start with, I do not think that anybody can deny that it is just stunning. As much as I wanted to give it a go, before I splurged some money on a pricey ass mascara, I wanted to find some reviews on it. Since it has been released, I have only seen a handful of reviews on it, and they were kind of a mixed bag, which put me off from purchasing it for the longest time. It wasn’t until House of Fraser was having a major sale on that I decided to just go for it and treat myself to this stunning Lancôme Mascara.
Packaging aside, this is a stunning mascara. Everything about this mascara is just staggering quality. The wand makes applying the product just so easy to do. The packaging is so pretty, the rose in the top is just like a cherry on top of the cake. The product itself is perfection to wear. When I use this mascara, I notice that my lashes seem to hold the curl for a long time, they also appear much longer and thicker. At first, I thought that this would be one of them fad products that I use but then don’t repurchase, but after using it for a good 6 months, I am totally hooked with it and I know that I will be purchasing another!

I know that this is another makeup product that I have mentioned so many times here on my blog before. When this was first released by Charlotte Tilbury, I needed to give it a go. I have always been the biggest fan of highlighting and contouring so when my favourite makeup brand brought out this super stunning duo, I had to get my hands on it. I was a little torn to start with because I didn’t know whether to buy the medium or the deep kit. I thought the contour would be better in the Deep and the highlight would be better from the Medium, in the end I went for the Medium Filmstar Bronze and Glow kit, it is absolutely to die for and I have been using it pretty much every day since.
When I first bought this, I thought that I would prefer the contour shade over the highlighter, but for me it was completely the other way around. The contouring shade is simply stunning and has the perfect undertones to it for contouring with, but it may be a touch too light to contour with on my complexion, but it does seem to cast a nice shadow when I pack it on under my cheekbones. The highlighting shade though is just stunning. It is a very creamy champagne shade which compliments my olive complexion so well. I really wish that single refill pans were available with this because I seem to burn my way through the highlighting shade so much quicker than I do the deeper contour shade.

I first tried this perfume when I was just 15 years old and I have loved it ever since. I can remember, one evening I was at the pub with my family for a meal and my aunty took this out of her handbag and sprayed herself and I was obsessed with it. It just seemed like such a grown-up scent and I needed it. my mum then bought it for my next birthday and I have made sure that I have had one of these on my fragrance shelf ever since. The instance that I start to run low on this, I have to order another, so that I don’t have a period without one.
I love this perfume for when I want something that is subtler than an in your face perfume. I like things that are understated and that is exactly what this Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt is for me. I can spray this on myself and still smell it hours later. The staying power of this stuff is out of this world and not to mention that it is such an incredible and individual type of scent. If you are looking for a perfume, that has a nice and light scent to it, without being too noticeable and pretty, then this is the perfect perfume for you. And with this being from Jo Malone, it is ideal for layering perfumes over the top.

I saw Casey Holmes use this once in a makeup tutorial and I was pretty much sold on it straight away. The colour of this just looked so stunning, not to mention that the packaging of anything that is by Too Faced is just to die for. As much as I wanted to order it, when I first saw this product, I could only get it from the US and with import charges and shipping, I just couldn’t justify ordering it straight away. I held off on ordering it and then when Debenhams started selling Too Faced products here in the UK, I had to buy it straight away. My first impressions of this Too Faced Sweetheart Bronzer were just that it is absolutely incredible.
I have never really seen that many people talk about this bronzer, which is quite surprising because I adore the quality of this bronzer. I think one thing that people may not like about this is that there is a slight amount of shimmer running through it, and people do tend to hover towards more matte bronzers. But the shimmer running through this is what really sells it for me. I feel like when I reach for this bronzer it just gives my face some dimension and makes me look much more put together. When I have a full matte face, I feel flat, this just breathes live back into my face. I am obsessed with this bronzer and when it is paired with my Tom Ford Bronzer Brush it looks incredible.

I have just mentioned the Tom Ford Bronzer brush but I feel like I need to mention it again in this post. I tend not to order expensive makeup brushes, I never really see the need. I have always used makeup brushes that are in the middle of the road price range and they have always worked for me really well. But, when it come to this brush, I knew that I had to splurge a little and try it out. I had seen so many people using this over the years and it really sparked my interest, but at the end of the day £80 on a makeup brush is just extortionate. Even once I had it in my hands, I didn’t want to use it. For that price I thought it should be more of a museum piece rather than using it for bronzer.
I was sceptical when I first started using this because I just couldn’t comprehend how it could be so different to a normal price brush. But, the quality really does show when you start to use it. This brush applies the products so flawlessly and it looks seamless on the skin. No matter what bronzing powder I pair this brush with, it just goes on like silk and always looks so incredibly natural. Washing this brush is a doddle and it always comes out looking brand new. I have noticed next to no shedding with this brush, which is a big factor for me when it comes to makeup brushes. At first, I was incredibly sceptical, but this brush has completely convinced me to try more Tom Ford makeup brushes.

This is another one of them makeup products that doesn’t need an introduction here on my blog. I first saw Carli Bybel using this on her YouTube channel, well over a year ago and I knew that I needed to get my hands on this new Nars concealer. When it went on the space NK website for the first time, I went straight online and ordered one for myself. I knew that this would be my new favourite just by the title of this product, and I was right. I feel like Nars is just one of them brands that always delivers the goods and that is no different with this Nars Soft Matte Concealer.
I have used this pretty much everywhere on my face and I feel like it always works. I have used it underneath my eyes and to highlight with and it always looks perfect. I have found that my perfect use for this concealer is in the area around my nose. I like to go in and apply it using a flat brush in the area around my nose and it just appears to completely blur out my pores and make my skin look like porcelain. Plus, the area around my nose is where I get the oiliest, and I feel like it really helps to control the oils and keep them at bay. If you haven’t already tried this out, then I really recommend giving it a go!

I have had my eye on this luxurious moisturiser by Charlotte Tilbury for the longest time and as much as I wanted to try it out, it was hella expensive and I just wasn’t sure about it. I had seen lots of really positive reviews on this Magic Cream, I had seen it being used in countless makeup tutorials and I had even tried it out several times thanks to the samples from her when you order direct from the Charlotte Tilbury website. But even after all of that, I didn’t want to just go in and buy it. At the end of the day, £70 for a moisturiser is a lot of money when you are basing your purchase on small samples.
Because I have oily skin, I find that I cannot really use this Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream in a morning before I go in with my makeup. It gives me too much moisture in my opinion, but what I love this for is in the evening when I am doing my night time routine and taking my makeup off. I will go through my whole skincare rig morale and then go in with generous lashings of this Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream. I find that my skin just drinks this up and it helps my skin get back into a normal state, before repeating the process the next day. I love this moisturiser and I am even planning on treating myself to the biggest tub of this when I have to repurchase.

Now onto my final product so try and bear with me just a short while longer. When I first saw this Tom Ford lipstick online, I knew that I had to try and give this a go. As much as I wanted it, like a couple things that I have mentioned in this post, the high price point really put me off. Near enough £40 for a lipstick just seemed a little too pricey. In the end, curiosity got the better of me and I went and spent my hard-earned cash on it. And let me tell you, I am so glad that I finally bit the bullet and went for it.
What is incredible about these lipsticks and in the end, what makes them worth the high price tag is how they feel on the lips. I have never tried a lipstick in all of my years that has the staying power of this Tom Ford Lip Colour, as well as been incredibly nourishing on the lips. When it comes to lipstick, you normally have to sacrifice the pigmentation and level of pay off, for the texture and that is not the case with this lipstick. This one in the shade India Rose is by far my favourite, but I have since tried some other shades and they all perform just as well.
If you have made it this far through the post then I am incredibly proud of you. I know that it has been a long one, but I really want to round it up and give you a full overview of the things that I’ve been loving. If you want to see a full review on anything that I have mentioned in this blog post, just click the name of the item above to be taken to that page. I will leave a link to everything that I have mentioned down below in case you want to try them out.
