My Favourite Foundations

It has been a while since I did a post that is solely dedicated to my favourite foundations, so I think that this post is well overdue. If you have been following my blog since day one, then you will know that foundation is the makeup product that I am most drawn to. I am sure that if most of you saw the draw where I keep all of my foundations, you would think that I was pretty crazy, and I would have to agree with you. The thing is, I just love trying out new foundations and finding new favourites. I have been obsessed with foundation since I was about 14 and since I created my blog, my obsession has just rocketed ever since.
This year, I am trying to attempt a spending ban. When I look back on all I have spent on foundations and other makeup products over the years it makes me feel a little sick and guilty. I could have my own house for god sake with all of the money that I have spent, so this year I am definitely going to try and reign it in a little. So, I thought just as I go into my attempted spending ban, I would round everything up and let you know what my favourite foundations are at the moment. I already know that this is going to turn into an incredibly long blog post, so please bear with me and feel free to skim read!

Where the hell do I even start about this Nars Sheer Glow Foundation. If you have been reading my blog for the past 12 months, then you will know about my obsession with this foundation. It was one of them products that I always thought looked so pretty on other people, but I thought it would make me look like a hot mess, so I stayed well clear of it. Normally foundations with the words ‘glow’, ‘dewy’, or ‘luminous’ in the title just make me look like an oil slick, so I am never really tempted into buying them.
In the end, curiosity got the better of me and I logged onto the Space NK website and I decided to treat myself to this foundation. I bought this in the shade Syracuse and I honestly have never used a foundation that is more of a perfect match for me before. The texture of this foundation is just out of this world, it is a nice lightweight foundation that offers a medium to full coverage depending on how you apply it. This Sheer Glow just seems to last on my skin like an absolute dream, I can look in a mirror 6 hour after I first applied it and I honestly think it looks better than when I first put it on in the morning. Obsessed doesn't even come close to describe how I feel about this one. The fact that I have repurchased almost 10 times already just shows how much I love it!

This is one of them foundations that I feel really doesn’t get the recognition that it deserves. I normally only buy foundations when I have really looked into reviews about them, but with this, I hadn’t really seemed much online. The only big YouTuber that I had heard talk about it was Jaclyn Hill and she really liked it and that paired with the fact that it is an oil free foundation, pretty much has me sold on it. The only thing that stopped me from buying it is that there was always something much newer that was coming out that would draw my attention. It wasn’t until my skin was playing up and getting really oily, that I was tempted into trying this out.
When I received this and started to actually use it, I was kicking myself that I hadn’t tried it out sooner. The texture of this foundation I would say is similar to a gel, it isn’t quite a liquid, but it still far away from a cream. The Cover FX Oil Free Foundation is quite a thick consistency, which means that buffing it into the skin can be quite difficult because it can drag your skin a little, my favourite way to apply this foundation has been by patting it into the skin using a dense buffing brush. This foundation does help to control my oils through the day, but I do still have to blot. Overall, this is just a great foundation that you can really rely on when it comes to wanting to control the shine and have a pretty high coverage look.

It took me quite a while to try this foundation, god knows why because it always appealed to me, it was just one of them products that wasn’t really at the top of my wishlist. Even though this did look like a foundation that I would enjoy using, it has been around for quite some time already, and I thought I would be too late onto the bandwagon. In the end, I was still seeing it being used and mentioned in YouTube tutorials and all over beauty blogs, so I thought it was about time that I just went for it. Luckily, by the time I finally decided to buy it Debenhams had started selling Too Faced so it was easy for me to pick up.
My favourite things about this foundation is the level of coverage you get for a lovely lightweight feeling. Now, as you can see from this post, I am a lover of a full coverage foundation, but normally to get that level of pigmentation, you have to sacrifice the texture on your skin. With this Too Faced Born This Way foundation, I have used a Beauty Blender or a buffing brush and either way it always looks stunning. To me, this is a nice medium coverage foundation, but it can be incredibly easy to build this up to a fuller coverage look. Too Faced is a brand that I had never really tried before, but after using this one, I delved into trying more by the brand!

You guys probably know by now, but if my girl Casey Holmes uses a foundation on her YouTube channel and likes it, then you should know for a fact that I am going to go out and buy it. Every single foundation that I have bought over the years on Casey Holmes’ recommendation, I have absolutely loved, and that is the same for this one. Anybody who has watched her channel over the years will know that this has been her holy grail foundation for such a long time, so it goes without saying that I bought it and fell head over heels for it myself.
One huge benefit of this foundation is the extensive shade range that they offer. It is so important that brands cater for as many skin tones as possible and I feel like Estee Lauder do a good job with this Double Wear foundation. This is a full coverage foundation, and when I go in with one light layer, more or less everything is covered. I may have to go in with a very small amount of additional product on my cheeks, but my hyperpigmentation can be quite hard to cover. When this Double Wear Foundation is on and in place, it is perfection and doesn’t budge all day long. My only issue with this foundation is that you can get flashback with it, but in day to day life I don’t have my photograph taken so that isn’t really an issue for me.

I know that probably everybody in the world has heard of this foundation by now and I bet that hell of a lot of people have used it, but I still need to mention it in this blog post, alongside some of my other favourite foundations. I love stick foundations and I love Hourglass, so I knew that I had to try this when it was released. Not to mention that near enough every YouTuber and beauty blogger was sent these foundations in PR and everybody was saying that it was super full coverage, and products like that just have my name written all over
them.
I bought this from Space NK and to start with I didn’t love it, but that was my fault. I bought a colour which was around 4 shades darker than I should have probably bought. I tried to make it work but I found that every single time I reached for it, I ended up looking like an orange by the end of the day. I did repurchase it in a much more suitable colour and I instantly fell in love with this. It is super full coverage, easy to blend, long lasting and it makes the skin look so perfect. I reach for this all of the time, especially if I know I am going to be having my photo taken because it always makes the skin look so flawless.

As soon as this Makeup Forever HD Stick Foundation was released then I needed to try it out. I love a stick foundation and I love pretty much everything that is Makeup Forever, so I thought that it would be a winner for me. As much as I did want to try this out straight away, I wasn’t keen on the idea of ordering it from the states, because it can get pretty expensive when you do it that way around with the exchange rate, shipping and import charges. But luckily for me, and I am sure loads of other people, Debenhams decided to take one for the team and start selling Makeup Forever products!
The first thing that I feel like I need to mention is that this is a much lighter foundation than I normally choose to wear. It is lighter both with the consistency and coverage, but for an everyday kind of foundation, I think that is actually a good thing. This is so quick and easy to apply I a morning. I literally just scribble some lines on my face and then I will buff it in either with my Beauty Blender or buffing brush and I am good to go. This is a nice and buildable foundation and I have got it to be quite a medium/full coverage finish before. I will say that this does make me quite oily in places, but it is nothing that blotting and a little setting powder cannot rectify.

This is an incredible foundation and I could just leave this right here without having to say anymore.  This is just one of those iconic foundations that I feel like most of the world has tried out. This foundation was made iconic by Kim Kardashian and her makeup artist Mario using it on her, it always looked simply stunning and whether you like the Kardashians or not, you cannot deny that Kim always looks flawless, and I wanted myself a piece of that action. So, I committed to it and went out and bought this expensive ass foundation, but I have to tell you the truth, I love it more now than I did back then.
This foundation gives a medium coverage, but I find that when I pack it on using a buffing brush, I can quite easily get that to be a nice full coverage finish. The overall feel of the foundation is quite satin, it doesn’t really dry down, but I wouldn’t expect that from a foundation with the word ‘luminous’ in the name. Saying that though, the luminosity in this foundation, does not make me any more oily than I usually am, it just gives me a nice and healthy glow. I have gone through so many bottles of this stuff over the years and I think that just proves how much I really love it.

I bought this foundation just because I saw Hrush use it in a Kylie Jenner makeup tutorial and it looked stunning. I never normally get sucked into trends and I most certainly do not buy things just because it is what the Kardashian/Jenner clan use, but I could not deny just how stunning Kylie's skin looked when Hrush used this on her. It made me almost immediately log onto Sephora and pay through the nose of the product and shipping to get this sent over to the UK. I actually think that this may be one of the most expensive foundations that I
have ever bought which is pretty ridiculous.
What I loved almost straight away with this Koh Gen Do foundation is how it feels on the skin. It is a lovely and lightweight foundation that I feel is perfect for wearing every single day. There was a very limited foundation range with this foundation, and I bought one of the deepest shades and it is still far too light for my skin. The way that this foundation buffs into the skin is just perfection. The coverage is pretty light and sheer, but I have built this up and got a nice medium coverage. I have also paired it with my Cover FX Custom Cover Drops and the two go together like a match made in heaven.

When this foundation was first released, I just wasn’t sure about it. I loved the original Makeup Forever HD foundation, I don’t even want to know how many bottles I must have gone through off the stuff before they reformulated it and created the new Makeup Forever Ultra HD Foundation. There was just something about the original formula, that was like nothing that I had tried before. I feel like from all of the foundations that I had tried out previous to this, the Makeup Forever was just such a step up and my makeup always looked like it had looked like it had been done by a professional.
Then they gave it a face list and I couldn’t bring myself to try it out. In the end, after putting it off for around 6 months, I decided to bite the bullet and go for the new one. I have to say, that I now kick myself that I didn’t try this out sooner. It is like they looked at the minor things that were wrong with the original and put everything right with this one. I have seen lots of mixed reviews about this Makeup Forever Ultra HD Foundation, I think many are from people like me that loved the original. But for me, and my skin, the new one worked like an absolute dream.

This was one of the first high end foundations that I had ever bought. I can remember logging onto the Boots website and purchasing this for the first time. I felt so guilty after I hit that checkout button. I think this has always been around £32, which is a reasonable price for a high-end foundation, but when I was used to buying Rimmel and Maybelline, it fell like a huge step up for me. Luckily, when I received the parcel in the post the next day, they had accidentally packed two of the foundations by mistake, so I got lots of product for my money.
When I use this foundation, I cannot help but notice how pretty my skin lasts. The shade range with high end foundation such as Chanel are pretty limited, but for my mid-tone skin, I find that BD60 is just perfect. There is no oxidisation with this product, it stays just the same as when it is applied all day long. This is one of them foundations that I reach for when I know that I want my makeup to last well all-day long. The quality is just incredible and it is one that I constantly go back to. The only thing that lets down the Chanel Perfection Lumiere is the limited shade range.
There you have it all of my favourite and most used foundations. If you have made it this far then I am incredibly proud of you and you need to give your eyes a break from the damn screen for a while. I just love how different foundations can make your skin look so different in so many good ways. As normal with all of my blog posts, I will link to where you can find these items down below. Make sure to leave me a comment down below and let me know what some of your most used and well-loved foundations are down below in the comments box.

  8. I've tried two of these - the Nars Sheer Glow and Estee Lauder Double Wear, but they are not my favourite. Sheer Glow makes me super oily and Double Wear looks super cakey on me. However, I'm really keen to try the Too Faced Born This Way foundation and Chanel Perfection Lumiere Foundation.

    Lots of love,
