How I Get Into The Christmas Spirit

This year I already seem to be well and truly in the Christmas spirit. For the longest time, I have been a bit of a Scrooge when it comes to Christmas. I think I have only started to really enjoy it since I started work and I treasure them two full weeks off that I get at the end of December. I know Christmas is about much more than time off work, but it is a massive bonus. Not to mention that with how hard this year has been for me, I am going to try and make the most out of Christmas this year!
But sometimes, when I am feeling a little overworked and stretched finely, I do find it hard to get myself into the mood to be Christmassy when all I want to do is flop in bed and not get back out again until it is spring. So, I thought for first post in December, I would write you a post and let you know what I do to get in the Christmas spirit!

Trim up the house
I instantly feel so much more festive when the house looks somewhat Christmassy. I am very particular of my Christmas tree and by the time I am done with it and all of the decorations it looks like something that belongs in the doorway of Harrods. It is my pride and joy in my house around Christmas time. I will then add little features into every room to make people think of Christmas. My favourite thing though is my wreath on my front door. I get a new one freshly made each year and they are always so stunning. It just makes me feel more Christmassy and relaxed as soon as I get home!

Watch my favourite Christmas movies
All I do in the evenings is watch movies so it is no different when it gets to this time of year. I have bought so many films on iTunes over the years and a good chunk of them are Christmas films. I love closing the blinds, bring the quilt down from the bed and laying on the sofa and watching a Christmas film by candlelight. It is just really cosy and makes me feel so festive. If I am going to push the boat out I will even have a hot chocolate with whipped cream to make me feel really festive and fat!
Start shopping for presents
As I get older I have stopped buying myself as many treats and I have started to focus on the people around me. I never thought that I could enjoy spending money on other people but the look on somebody’s face when you have got them something that they like is just priceless. I make lists of what I want to get people and I will either go out and pick things up or I will order it online. Either way, getting the presents, wrapping them up and writing on the tags just make me so happy. It just gives you a chance to give back to the people that mean the most to you!

Get my Christmas playlist together
I love music. I listen to it all day long without a doubt. So, as soon as December hits you can guarantee that my Christmas playlist will be loaded back onto my phone. I don’t have any boring hymns and there is no Cliff Richard, and if you don’t know who that is then you are incredibly lucky. I am more of a modern Christmas music fan. The Pogues, Band Aid, Destiny’s Child and so many more. I am going to be doing a post in a couple days of all of my favourite Christmas songs, so be sure to keep an eye out for that!
Go to the Christmas markets
We are so lucky here in the UK that pretty much no matter where you live, unless you are up in the highlands, but you are never more than 2 or so hours away from a big city. And all of them big cities at this time of year have Christmas markets. Most of them are just full of trinkets and things that I wouldn’t buy for my own home, but it is a great chance to pick up some stocking fillers, presents for people and some great Christmas treats. Not to mention that you can have a huge stein of beer and nobody will judge you because that is the thing to do when you go to the German Christmas markets!
If I do all these things I am like a little kid bouncing off the walls. I get myself so giddy. Obviously, the ones that go without saying are getting to see my friends and family, I just try to spend every moment that I can with the people that I care about the most. Me and my boyfriend are so lucky that even though we don’t have children of our own, our friends do, so we are cool aunt and uncle and it is so nice to see them around Christmas when they are all a little but wappy, but really excited!
