Makeup Forever Ultra HD Foundation Review

Since this foundation was first released the other year, I have wanted to give it a go. I loved the original Makeup Forever HD Foundation, much like everybody else in the world, so I was more than sceptical when this new one came out. It had big boots to try and fill. I kind of put off trying it out straight away because I wanted to look at some reviews and maybe try a sample before I committed to it and went and bought the full-size version. Plus, I had the Makeup Forever HD Foundation Stick and as I am sure that you are aware, I love that, so I wasn’t really on the market for trying anything new.
When my beloved Makeup Forever HD Foundation Stick was finally empty, I decided that it was time that I tried something new, well, new for me anyway. After hours of looking online at YouTube videos and looking at so many swatches that I ended up a little cross-eyed, I finally went ahead and ordered the Makeup Forever Ultra HD Foundation from Debenhams. It is honestly a god send that Debenhams now sell MUFE makeup, before I either had to buy it from America and pay an arm and a leg in shipping, or buy from a sketchy little business based in London that charged near enough double for the products!

Anyway, I ordered the shade Y445. In the stick foundation, I got the Y415, which is a lovely shade for when my tan is fading and I am a little paler, but I thought that shade Y445 looked more like it would match how tanned I usually am. When I first got it through the post, I thought that the product in the bottle looked so dark, I was sure that I had gotten it really wrong. But then when I swatched it on my hand and on my chest, I saw that it matched my tan really well. I will just say though that the shade colours of the stick foundation and the Ultra HD liquid, don’t correlate very well, I tried a sample of the Ultra HD in Y415 and it was very different to the stick foundation that I have.
I had seen online that to get the maximum coverage from this foundation, you have to give the bottle a good shake, I think it even says that on the back of the packaging as well. The first time that I applied this, I have to say that I wasn’t in love with it. With one layer on, I could still see all of my problem areas on my skin, and I felt like it didn’t really cover much up. I even took it all off and just went in with my Too Faced Born This Way, because it was first thing in the morning before work and I didn’t have enough time to try and get it to work for me.

But, when I thought about it, I think it was kind of my fault that it didn’t work. When I tried the Makeup Forever Ultra HD Foundation for the first time, it was also the first time that I had tried the Real Techniques Buffing Brush, and I felt like the brush absorbed quite a lot of the product, so I decided to go back in with my favourite brush the Morphe M439, because that is always a winner for applying foundation in my book and I wanted to give the foundation a really fair shot.
So, the next morning I went back in with the same foundation, but on my favourite Morphe M439 and I have to say that it looked stunning. It didn’t cover every problem area on my skin, but it covered hell of a lot more than it did the day before. Also, with the M439 brush, it allows you to really pack the product in where you need it. I started by applying a really thin layer and then I gradually built it up so that I had the coverage that I wanted, and I have to admit that by the time I had finished it looked so flawless and my skin has never looked so perfected.
It didn’t mask my skin, it was a medium coverage and incredibly comfortable on the skin. The foundation made it very easy to see why it is so popular for photography and video work. I have no doubt that you could build this up to be a very heavy coverage, but when you have a high-quality product like this, you don’t want to use it to cake your face up with. This just glides on incredibly smoothly and is just so easy to apply. If I was still doing bridal freelance makeup, then I know for sure that this would be the foundation that I carry in my kit.
I honestly have been loving using this foundation, it is ideal for the summer and the warmer months because your skin feels nice and lightweight. If you were a lover of the original Makeup Forever HD Foundation, then I know for sure that you are going to love this one. Make sure to leave me a comment down below and let me know if you have tried it and how you think it stands up to the original!

  1. I thought that this foundation would be too heavy for me, but a medium coverage which is comfortable to wear sounds right up my street for those days where I want a perfect, flawless skin! Thank you for sharing :)

    1. I haven't noticed that with this foundation, especially when I buff it in with a Beauty Blender or buffing brush!

  4. I think you've convinced me to get that Morphe brush actually, I always use my RT buffing brush but this one sounds better. Then I might pick up this foundation as I'm still yet to try MUFE!

    1. Honestly, I am not a big fan of Morphe because of everything with all of the YouTubers, but I cannot fault the M439 buffing brush in the slightest!

  6. I had a bad experience with a Make Up For Ever lipsticks' range and since then I've been sceptical about this brand. This foundation seems lovely though :) your reviews are ALWAYS so complete, thank you xx
