Tips for Long Lasting Makeup

I used struggled when I first started wearing makeup to actually get it to last on my skin. It would get halfway through the day and I would look patchy and it would have transferred all over the place. Over the years I have learnt and taught myself ways to make my makeup last longer and stay looking exactly how it was in the morning. I am in no way saying that you have to do these steps, these are just friendly pieces of advice that have helped me out over the years.

Also I want to let you guys know that you don’t have to have high end makeup to have long lasting makeup. It is true that designer makeup is more expensive for a reason because usually they have longer lasting ingredients, at the end of the day, you pay for what you get. But, you can get the same results with drugstore products. You don’t always have to break the bank to have nice looking makeup. So here are my simple steps to a longer lasting look.

1) Prime the skin

If you put a base under your foundation it will last so much longer. Especially if you tailor it to your skin tone. Such as for myself I use a matte primer to help combat my oil problems.

2) Press the foundation into the skin

However, it is that you apply your foundation, press it into your skin afterwards. I like to buff foundation into my skin using a Morphe M439 brush and then I take a small cosmetic sponge with nothing on and I just press it into my skin. That way it makes sure it is on solid rather than just sat on the surface.

3) Set the face

Take a face powder, either with colour or a translucent one and just go over the whole face. It stops everything from moving around or transferring onto clothes. Again, this doesn’t have to be expensive it can just be a drugstore one. My personal drugstore powder is the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder

4) Use a setting spray

Once you have finished your face and set it with powder then lock it into place with a setting spray. The setting spray works as a bonding agent and it gels the foundation to the primer and stops it from moving. It also helps to keep the face waterproof and grime away from your pores.

5) Carry a powder

It doesn’t have to be a lot of powder, again the Rimmel is the perfect one. It is small enough just to keep in your handbag, then with a small brush or a powder puff press over the areas that you touch excessively or that you get oily in. It then stops it from moving and it keeps everything where it should be.

These are my basic tips. I would love to hear from you guys on what you do for longer lasting makeup so make sure to leave me a comment below or drop me an email and I will get straight back to you!

  1. My friend has the same problem too with making her makeup last. Sometimes it's actually your skincare routine that makes your makeup no last long. She discovered that her skin was dehydrated and would basically eat her makeup during the day because her skin was so dehydrated it was trying to get mositure from anywhere it could find it.
