Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation vs Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

Anybody who is a regular visitor here on my blog knows that I am obsessed with foundations. Foundation is the makeup product that I am most drawn to out of all the makeup products out there. I just like how they can completely transform your face with one simple product. I have been known to buy foundations even when I know they won’t work for me, just because I want to own them!

These foundation comparison posts have gone down really well before and people seemed to really enjoy reading them, so I thought that I would do another one for you. I chose these two foundations because they are pretty similar products, with similar price tags and are both cult classic products. And if there is much hype around products as there has been about these two foundations over the years, I want to know why!

So the products that this post is all about is the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation and the Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation. Both of these foundations have been really talked about over the years and are both meant to give the same kind of finish and overall look. So, here is my comparison on these two different foundations…

First up, I want to talk about how much product you get in these foundations. With both the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation and the Koh Gen Do Aqua foundation you get 30ml of product. I am sure most of you already know this but 30ml is more or less the standard amount of product in a liquid foundation.

Now let me talk about the packaging. The Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation is in a nice frosted glass bottle. Just to look at this product it looks nice and luxurious. The lid has the Giorgio Armani logo on and it just makes it look like a really nice product. The Koh Gen Do Aqua foundation is also in a glass bottle. The packaging on this product is nice but not really anything to write home about. I have accidently dropped and smashed a bottle of the Koh Gen Do Aqua before so in that respect it isn’t great, but I guess that could be done with the Giorgio Armani foundation too!

Both foundations are dispensed in a similar way. They have pumps which is great. Nothing annoys me more than getting a liquid foundation and it not having a pump, especially when they are high end foundations. Anyway, these two are safe in that respect!

Consistency is up next. The Koh Gen Do Aqua foundation is just as the name suggests, it is like water. Extremely runny, when I squirt this out onto my makeup palette it is like a game trying to get it to not run off! The Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk is similar with the thin consistency but it is ever so slightly thicker than the Koh Gen Do.

Now for the most important thing in my opinion, the coverage. For me if I am wearing a foundation I want it to cover everything, if not what is the point in putting a foundation on. For the Koh Gen Do with it having Aqua in the name, I was a little dubious and I didn’t think I would be able to get a full coverage look. I buffed a light layer of it into the skin and I would say there was a medium coverage. I then just went in with one more pump and built it up on the areas of the face where I needed it. The Giorgio Armani I would say is more of a medium to full coverage. Again, when I buffed this into the skin it didn’t cover everything, but it did cover considerably more than the Koh Gen Do.

With the Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation when it is applied all over the face and set in place it honestly feels like you aren’t wearing anything. It is so lightweight that I didn’t have any issues with it. Sometimes when I wear fuller coverage foundations by the end of the day my skin can get irritated, but not with a foundation as lightweight as this one. The same goes really for the Giorgio Armani foundation. You can feel it on the skin, but in no way does it seem heavy.

Now for the price. The Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation comes in at around £37 as standard here in the UK. Which I understand is expensive for a foundation. The Koh Gen Do on the other hand is £52 when ordering on Sephora. If you was just going to order this foundation on its own from Sephora with shipping and VAT on top it would work out at £77, which is extortionate for a foundation.

In my opinion if I had to chose between these two foundations I would go for the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. For me, the Koh Gen Do is just far too expensive to order to the UK and the Armani just feels better in my opinion. If you are a fan of lighter coverages and a very lightweight feel, the Koh Gen Do would be perfect for you, but when I am paying that kind of money I want to have an out of this world makeup product that I am happy paying nearly £80 for!

I hope that you enjoyed this little comparison post. As normal here on my blog I will link down below to where you can find the items. Also, if you have any comments please feel free to leave them below and I will get right back to you!

  1. I love the Armani foundation and have been curious about the Koh Gen Do but there's no way I'd pay that much for it - maybe if I could swatch it if I'm in Sephora, I might buy it but I'd be afraid that I would choose the wrong shade ordering online. Great post! xx

    1. I know, it is always a gamble ordering online isn't it, I do highly recommend it though!

  2. Oh very interesting products
