Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation vs MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation

I wanted to do a blog post on my new favourite holy grail foundation against my long time holy grail foundation. These are two of my go to foundations on a daily basis so I thought that I would do a little post to let you guys know what my favourite is!

First I want to talk about the amount of product that you get in both of these products. For the Estee Lauder and the MAC you get 30ml. This is a pretty standard amount of foundation to get in a bottle of liquid product. For a stick you would be looking at about 10g but for liquid this is about right.

Next thing I want to talk about is the packaging. The Estee Lauder Double Wear comes in a nice frosted glass bottle with a nice gold screw top. It looks really nice and luxurious. The MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation is a glass bottle which is nice and it has a rubber screw on lid. They are both similar in style but I would say that the Estee Lauder does look a lot prettier.

Now onto the how the product is dispensed. Both of the MAC and Estee Lauder foundation have screw on lids and when you remove them you have to pour the foundation out. MAC however do a pump that fits onto both of these foundations, which is what I use so I don’t waste too much product. It just makes your life easier but it is a bit more money to spend.

Consistency is next on the agenda. Here I think both of these foundations are really similar. I would say that the foundation is a thick liquid. If you dispense either of these products onto your hand or a palette it has structure to it and won’t run off, but it isn’t too thick that it is hard to use. I find both of them to be really creamy and blendable.

Next I am going to touch on the coverage of these products. To get a fair comparison I used one pump of each foundation on each side of my face using the same Morphe M439 Buffing Brush. I found that the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation had much more coverage off the back. The MAC Studio Fix Fluid did cover everything but I could still see some of my hyper pigmentation through the foundation. But it can be very easily built up to be totally full coverage.

Both of these foundations I have to admit do feel really nice on the skin and I have never had an issue with any of them. The Estee Lauder one glides on really nice and leaves a really nice finish. I find that it does dry pretty quick so if you are going to use creams or liquids over the top to highlight and contour I would suggest working quickly. The MAC Studio Fluid again glides on really nicely but can feel quite cakey if you have to build up the coverage in certain areas like I do.

The price of these foundations I feel is quite middle of the range for a high end foundation. If you were to buy the MAC Studio Fix Fluid from MAC themselves here in the UK it goes for £22. From retailer such as Debenhams and House of Fraser you can get the Estee Lauder Double Wear for £31. Plus, with both of these foundations like I said before you do have to buy a pump separately if that is what you want and that is around an additional £5.

Now for my final point about which foundation I prefer. If I really had to choose between the two I would go for the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation. I just think that everything about this foundation is just a fraction above the MAC foundation. The coverage is nice, the consistency, the coverage and I know it is more expensive, but in my opinion I feel that it is worth it.

I hope that you enjoyed this comparison post. As normal I will leave a link below to where you can check out the two foundations mentioned. Also, if you have any questions or comments just leave them below and I will get right back to you!

  1. I love Double Wear but have actually never tried a MAC foundation! I think £22 is a great price though so would definitely try it out one day.
