Introducing Martha, My Golden Retriever!

You may have seen from the images on my posts from over Christmas, but there is a new addition in my family. On the 20th of December I went and picked up my new little fur baby and I am obsessed with her to say the least. So, I wanted to do a post and just introduce you to her because I can see her featuring a lot on my blog.

As you may or may not know, earlier on in the year I had to have my dog of 13 years, Mika put to sleep. To say that I am heartbroken about it is a vast understatement. The way that I lost her was very sudden and traumatic. I won’t give you all the gory details but one day she was fine and the next I had to make the choice to put her down.

Since it happened in August I have just been gutted. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about Mika, she was just such a huge part of my life and to be honest I have been lost without her. It may sound crazy if you’re not a dog person or if you haven’t owned a dog before but you just develop a special bond. And with Mika I rescued her from the edge of starvation and sat up with her every night while she cried and we were just inseparable.

So, there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted another dog. I don’t even think it was a matter of wanting a dog, it was needing another dog. After looking around I decided that I wanted a Golden Retriever, I just wanted a dog that was really loving and known to be loyal.

So, I looked into breeders and found one local to me. I rang the lady and we spoke for hours. I explained what had happened with Mika and we both ended up in tears on the phone. She knew for sure that she wanted me to have one of her pups so I was so happy. I went to visit them the next week and I have never been so happy in my life. I sat in the pen with all of the puppies and they were crawling around me, it really was the happiest place in the world!

I had no idea how to choose which one I wanted so I just sat there to see which one approached me. One crawled towards me and I picked it up and it nuzzled in my scarf that was covered in Chanel No5 and I knew that was the puppy for me. We cuddled for ages and I quickly put my deposit down for her.

Waiting to pick her up seemed like the longest time ever. I had to wait a whole month which was basically torture. The week before I got her I don’t think that I slept at all because I was so excited like a little child.

Since I have got her I literally haven’t put her down. I know that she won’t be little for long so I am making the most of picking her up and giving her a love while I can. I am just so excited and she is so beautiful that I wanted to show her off to you all.

So far, she has been perfect. She cried in the night for a few nights when I first got her but now she has calmed right down. She is so timid and tired. She has even been coming to work with me because my Managing Director is obsessed with puppies as I am, apparently, she is going to be the office dog!

I will keep you up to date anyway on how she is doing. Make sure that you follow me on Instagram for constant PupDates!

  3. Oh Martha is absolutely gorgeous! We have a goldendoodle (retriever vs poodle) and she's just lovely, I absolutely love the temperament and look of retrievers! So awful to lose a pet and sounds like Mika was lovely, but here's to many happy days with Martha :)
