Best of MAC Makeup

I often get comments about how much MAC makeup I write about in my blog posts. It is never intentional, but over the years I have just accumulated so much of it. When I was training to be a makeup artist I did a week long intensive course with MAC, which required you to have certain products. Then when I was fully qualified I worked on a MAC counter for a while, so I was given a lot of the new collections and products.

I get a lot of comments asking me what my favourite products by MAC are, so I thought I would dedicate a post to it and let you know my top 10 products, that I always repurchase and that I have used forever!

MAC Studio Fix Fluid

This foundation has always been one of my favourites. I think it was my first ‘high end’ foundation that I bought, it was definitely in my first MAC haul. This is a high coverage foundation that really makes the skin look perfected. It isn’t 100% full coverage but it can be built up. If you want to take a step up from drugstore I would try this foundation out. There is also a massive shade range so you are guaranteed to get the right one for you.

MAC Studio Fix Concealer

This is something that I also bought in my first MAC haul with the Studio Fix Fluid. This stuff is so thick. I have a lot of hyper-pigmentation on my cheeks and I can get quite dark underneath my eyes. This stuff covers everything that I want it to. I like to take a fluffy brush and swirl it around in the product and then apply it. Then I’m not dragging the skin and it helps to get in all the really fine lines around my eyes.

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer

I adore this concealer, I use it on a nearly daily basis to conceal and highlight the area under my eyes. I find that I works really well on my combination skin type. When I use this under my eyes and set it straight away with a translucent powder and it looks bomb. I have even been caught out in the rain before wearing this stuff and it didn’t budge even when the rest of my makeup was dripping off my chin!

MAC Pro Longwear Foundation

I bought this purely because I loved the concealer so much. I thought the two would go hand in hand and they really do. This isn’t as full coverage as the MAC Studio Fix Fluid but it isn’t far off and it can be easily built up to a higher coverage. A great foundation for everyday use because it feels quite light on the skin and doesn’t seem cakey.

MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation

I bought this foundation for when I was travelling. I hate travelling with glass bottles, not only can they smash but they take up a lot of room. I saw somebody using this when I was at college and I went and got it straight away. This is a very thick foundation but it can be blended out using a big buffing brush. Just be careful not to use too much or it can make feel very cakey.

MAC Lipsticks

I cannot stress to you how much I love MAC lipsticks. Not only is the formula of these amazing, even the matte colours feel nourishing on the lips. But the other best thing is that there is such a vast colour choice. I swear if you think of a colour and look on their website they will have it. I always use to find it such a chore to find a good nude for my deep skin tone but this is perfect.

MAC Mineralise Skin Finish in Soft and Gentle

I am not crazy about highlighters; I have said it so many times. You may have noticed when I do my talk through makeup looks, I never apply highlighter because I find that most of the time they just highlight bumps in the skin and imperfections rather than making the skin sheen. This highlighter though is so smooth and it glides on the skin so nice. It is very subtle and natural looking. This applied to the high points of the face just looks stunning and effortless.

MAC Eyeshadows

These are my babies and my palettes have been a labour of love over the years. I have double eyeshadow palette. One side has matte neutral shades and the other had shimmer shades. I wanted to do two different palettes for them both so I have something for every look, every person and every skin tone. I recommend making your own palettes rather than going out and buying readymade ones where you won’t use all of the shades.

MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre

Every good eyeshadow application starts with an eyeshadow base. This one has been my ride or die, I think I am on my 4th or 5th by now. Thy are amazing. This colour just seems to work on so many skin tones so this has been a staple in my professional kit!

MAC Shaping and Sculpting Powders

These are both pro products that you can get on the MAC Cosmetics website. They have changed the way that I contour and highlight my face. The powders are really creamy and blendable. Again I put these in a customisable palette and it means that I just get the colours that I want to use and suit my skin, rather than buying readymade highlight and contour palettes that are too light or dark for my skin.

That is, it for my best of MAC makeup products. If you have any other products that you would like me to review just let me know in the comments or drop me an email.

  2. I'm so glad you wrote a post like this. I'm starting to build a MAC collection as I've never owned anything from them. I bought velvet teddy the other day and I can honestly say I agree with everything you say. The formula is fantastic and the matte doesn't crack your lips at all. I was so impressed that I'm going to purchase some more soon. Thanks so much for the recommendations!
