My Trip To Cologne

As you may know if you follow me on Instagram, I have just been to Cologne in Germany. It was a work trip, so I was super busy while I was there. But, it was so beautiful and we had such a great time that I wanted to let you guys know about my trip. I set off the other Saturday and travelled down to Heathrow to stay the night at a hotel because I had an early morning flight. The next morning, I went and got in the pod from the hotel and travelled to the airport.

The flight was straightforward and simple, the plane journey was only 1 hour long so it just flew by… literally. We landed in Dusseldorf so from there we had to travel to Cologne on the train which took about 1hr30m. When we got there, we found our hotel and settled in. It was called the Hotel Cristal. I had looked at it online and was very sceptical about it, but I found out when I arrived it had recently been renovated and I had been put into the penthouse suit, which had incredible views of the iconic cathedral.

As you may have noticed that I only really got to see Cologne when it was late at night, hence why all the images are dark. I was working in the day and by the time I got away it was pitch black outside. I do wish I had got to see more of it in the day time because it was so beautiful and the architecture was stunning to look at.

I do have to say that while I was away the weather was fucking miserable. It rained from start to finish. I only packed dresses to wear with tights and boots and I honestly felt like I could have frozen to death when I was walking around in the rain. The locals seemed much more prepared than I did!

On one morning before work I could go in late so that I could go and look around the cathedral. That for me was probably the highlight of my brief stint in Cologne. It was stunning and for a history nerd like me it was incredible to walk around a place that was steeped in as much history as that is.

That is really where the cultured part of my trip finished. The rest of my time in the evenings were spent bar hopping and trying as many different German beers as I possibly could. We found a great little bar, I wish I could remember the name of it, but it was so small and had a really homely vibe to it!

To anybody that is thinking about visiting Cologne, I really could not recommend it enough. It has a little bit of something for everybody and I really loved my time there, I can definitely see myself going back in the summer some time and having a good wander around and getting to see more of the city!
