Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation vs YSL Touche Eclat Foundation

I wanted to do a blog post pegging these two foundations against each other. Since my previous post went up about the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation I have been getting lots of questions about it and one reoccurring one was how it is in comparison to the YSL Touché Éclat Foundation.

I also have a post-up on the YSL Touché Éclat Foundation and I really do love that stuff and I have been using it for years and recently they redid the formula and now it is even better than before. So, this post is all about battling these two foundations out to see what is best.

Just remember that this comes from the point of view of somebody with mildly oily skin, so luminosity and staying power is something that I really have to think about when it comes to a foundation.

First thing to think about is the amount of product that you get. In both the YSL Touché Éclat Foundation and the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation you get 30ml of product. I have said before that this is a pretty standard amount of foundation to get in a bottle. Foundations like the Marc Jacobs Remarcable Foundation comes with about 22ml which winds me up. But, these two are spot on in that respect.

Both of these foundations have removable tops with pumps underneath. When foundations don’t have pumps, it means that you can end up wasting products so these are great for that purpose.

The consistency of the YSL Touché Éclat Foundation is a thin texture, but not like water. I like this because you can actually feel where you’ve applied it if that makes sense. It in no way feels like a mask or cakey but it does feel like there is foundation on your face. The Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation is very similar to the YSL but it is a little waterier, it is very similar in consistency to the Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation and the MAC Face and Body. When this is on your face it literally doesn’t feel like anything, you would have to apply a shit ton of this to make it feel heavy!

Something worth touching on about both of these foundations is that they both have quite strong scents. You can smell this as soon as you remove the top before you even pump the foundation. With the Giorgio Armani foundation, I would say that after a minute of this being applied to the face you can’t even spell it anymore. Whereas, with the YSL the scent is much stronger and I can sometimes end up smelling it for the majority of the day.

Now down to one of the most important things for me which is the coverage. I have hyperpigmentation and freckles that I like to cover so I like a foundation to be either full coverage or blendable. The YSL is a medium coverage I would say. I have tried to build this up to full coverage but it just seems to move the product which is on underneath. The Giorgio Armani on the other hand I would say is medium to full coverage but it can be built up nicely. On the areas where I needed it I just used my damp Beauty Blender to push some more product into the skin and it became full coverage really easily.

For the packaging I am pretty tied about these two foundations. On the one hand I love the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation because I am sucker for frosted glass. However, the shape and the top that is on the YSL I just find truly stunning.

Finally, for the price of both of these foundations. The YSL Touché Éclat Foundation retails for around £32.50, I think that is what I paid for it anyway. I genuinely do think that this foundation is worth that money. The Giorgio Armani Foundation is £37, again I think this is a good price for the product that you receive.

Even though I do really like both of these foundations if I could only repurchase one again it would be the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. This for me just ever so slightly sways me. The way it glides on the face, the colour, packaging and quality of the product is just ever so slightly better. I do recommend giving both of these foundations a try though so go and get samples and let me know what you think of both of them!

I will link below to all the products mentioned in this post and as normal please feel free to leave me any comments below or drop me an email.

  1. I've been wanting to try that Giorgio Armani foundation for so long, it sounds perfect for events and nights out as it doesn't have SPF either, so high coverage and no flashback. Definitely want it even more now!

    1. That's why I love it. When I used to be a freelance makeup artist it is all that I used on the bridal makeup that I did!
