Soap and Glory Mascara vs Maybelline Mascara

I thought I would do a comparison on these two products because they are both drugstore mascaras. I have always had the Maybelline Colossal and I have loved it. Then I got this Soap and Glory one in the gift set for Christmas so I thought I would let you guys know how I feel about them.

First up let’s talk about the amount of product that you get. In the Maybelline Colossal Mascara, you get 7ml of product which is pretty standard I find for a mascara. In the Soap and Glory Thick and Fast mascara you get 9ml, which is more but not significantly much more. Still, it is nice to have the extra bit.

Then let’s get onto to the brush. The Soap and Glory is a pretty normal standard brush, but it hasn’t got very many bristles on it. When you pull the wand out of the tube and brush the excess of the wand the bristles really flatten out, which is crap when you are putting it on your lashes. The Maybelline Colossal is a really nice wand. Quite thick, with sturdy bristles on it that brush through your lashes really nice.

I just have to briefly touch on the scent of these mascaras. In a mascara you don’t really expect a scent of sorts. With the Maybelline there isn’t a scent it is just a normal mascara. The Soap and Glory however has a strong smell, which I haven’t to say isn’t very nice. It smells like sterilizing fluid or a strong cleansing chemical like turps. Not exactly what I like to put on my eyelashes!

When you apply the Soap and Glory to the eyelashes it does go on pretty smoothly and it makes the lashes really nice and black. I found that when you try to layer this up to make the lashes thicker that it started to get really clumpy. Then once it was dried I found that it crumbled then parts of it would sit on my cheeks, that isn’t attractive. The Maybelline goes on really smoothly and doesn’t seem to crumble throughout the day. Though if you do apply too many coats the lashes will start to look clumpy.

Then let’s go onto the packaging. The Maybelline Colossal Mascara packaging does feel cheap, but that is probably because it is to be honest. If the product is good you don’t necessarily need amazing packaging. The Soap and Glory packaging is very similar to the Anastasia Brow Gel. A silver packaging with black writing on it. The packaging really is every so much nicer than the Maybelline Mascara!

Finally, onto the price. The Maybelline Colossal retails for here in the UK at roughly £7.99 in boots. A good price for such a good mascara, but this could be considered expensive for a drug store product. The Soap and Glory is £10.50. Expensive I think for this product, but you do have to take into account that you get a little more of this product than the Maybelline.

Overall, even though I have used the Soap and Glory for quite a while, I cannot imagine myself repurchasing this mascara. I much prefer the Maybelline Colossal and I will carry on to repurchase this one!
