MAC Studio Fix Fluid vs Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation

I needed to pitch these two against each other because they are both my go to foundations. I have had the MAC Studio Fix for years now and I really do love it. I am loyal to MAC because it has always worked so well for me.Then I saw everybody on YouTube raving about the Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation and I had to get it and give it a go. I heard that this was good for oily skin and that the coverage was insane. So, let’s just jump into the comparison…

First up is the amount of product that you get. In both the MAC Studio Fix Fluid and the Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation you get 30ml of product. This is a standard amount so they are even on this front.

Then let’s talk about how the product is dispensed. The MAC Studio Fix Fluid has a screw lid and an optional pump. Without the pump, this can be really messy. Pouring it out always means you dispense too much and waste it. The Clinique has a doe-foot applicator. Which does help minimise the amount of wasted product but it can be unhygienic because if you have a blemish it can spread the germs from that to other areas of the face causing breakouts. I have used this a lot though and this hasn’t been an issue for me.

The consistency of the MAC Studio Fix Fluid is a thick foundation. If you pump some of this out onto a palette it won’t run, it will hold its shape because it is that thick. When it is applied to the face it does feel quite heavy, it really does feel like you have a face of makeup on. The Clinique does appear to be a thinner consistency but it is hard to tell with the doe-foot applicator. It does feel more lightweight when this is applied to the face.

Now onto the coverage. The MAC Studio Fix Fluid is a very full coverage foundation. You put a small amount of this on and it will cover everything. If you need a thicker coverage this can be easily built up to make your skin look flawless. The Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation is meant to be a foundation and concealer all in one which just shows how much coverage this product has. One smooth application of this means that all blemishes, dark spots and dark under eyes will be covered straight away with one light application.

Then, the packaging. The MAC packaging does feel very nice. It is in a nice glass bottle. It looks amazing but it isn’t very good for travelling with because it could crack. The Clinique is a similar glass packaging but it doesn’t feel as luxurious as the MAC Studio Fix. My other bugbear with the Clinique is that it has a stopper in the top. This means that the wand cannot move about much inside the bottle. So, when the product is running low you can’t scrape the inside, which is what I normally do, to get every drop!

Now onto the price of these items. The Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation was £25 when I bought it from House of Fraser, I think it was cheaper at some other places but not by much. I think I saw it at other places for £22.50. The MAC Studio Fix Fluid is £22 directly from MAC. Both very similar in price and I think it is a good price for a foundation like this.

Overall, even though the two products do measure up against each other pretty evenly I do prefer the Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation. Everything from how it is applied, the coverage and consistency to me just makes this an overall better foundation.

I would love to hear from you if you have tried either of these foundations about how you thought they were. I will also link below to both of the products in case you are interested…

  1. I love the sound of that Clinique foundation, definitely going to give it a try. I've been using fairly low coverage foundations recently but it's always nice to have one thats higher coverage for nights out etc!

  2. I love the Mac Studio Fix and I like how it has a pump, but I haven't looked into many Clinique Foundations, so maybe I should check this one out. Great matchup!

Clinique seems to be much kinder to the skin than MAC so I would give it a go xx
