MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation - NW58 Review

I can remember when I went to pick this powder up on my lunch time at work and then I got back and the girls asked to see what I had bought, so I got it out and showed them and they were absolutely gobsmacked, they couldn’t believe that I was actually planning on wearing this. But I did and they all thought it was a brilliant idea, and had to apologise for their negativity.

The product that caused all this speculation was MAC Studio Fix Powder Foundation but in a much darker colour than my skin tone. I got it in NW58 which I think is one of the darkest shades that they do. In my natural foundation colour I am an NC40/44, so there is a substantial difference between the two shades.

What I do normally is I complete my base, primer, foundation, concealer, crème contour, set it with powder, usually Laura Mercier Translucent Powder and then move onto other powders. I use a powder highlight under my eyes and then lock the crème contour in place with a powder contour.

Over the years I have bought many powder contour products which are advertised as been especially for contouring but I always seem to have issues with them. Some seem too choppy and chalky for me to use or some are so grey in colour they make you look like you’ve come back from the dead. So I thought I would chose my own powder contour shade. I immediately thought of the MAC Studio Fix Powder because of the vast colour range that there is. Anybody of any skin tone will be able to find a contour shade in that range.

When I apply this on top of MAC Set Translucent Powder it goes on so smoothly. I don’t have to worry about it looking harsh. I use a Real Techniques Blush Brush to apply it. As I have mentioned before this is my favourite brush for applying contour because it applied the product with the top then with the tapered body of the brush it blends it out to nothingness.

This powder stays in place all day, I never have to worry about it moving or rubbing off and when I apply it with some Urban Decay Chill Makeup Setting Spray it will be on all day until I rub it off with a baby wipe.

If I was going to suggest a contouring product to anyone it would be this. And because I own all the powders for my professional kit it means I don’t have to carry additional contour products. Either this or the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder are my absolute favourites for contouring.
