MAC Set Powder vs Laura Mercier Translucent Powder

I am a sucker for setting powders. I need to set my face religiously because I have oily skin. I am always on the hunt for the best one. I have been using the MAC Set Powder for quite a while and quite recently got the Laura Mercier Translucent Powder. I thought I would give you a breakdown on how these two products compare to come another.

Let’s start with the amount of product that you get in these. In both the MAC Set Powder and the Laura Mercier you get 30g of product. Which puts them on a levelling playing field. This is quite a lot to get in a translucent powder. Powders like the Makeup Forever HD Powder you only get around 11g of product.

Now, onto the packaging. Both the MAC and Laura Mercier are in small round tubs with holes cut into the top section once the lid is removed. Really easy to use because you can simply turn the product upside down and a small amount will be dispensed. It can be messy, but what loose powder isn’t?

The consistency of the Laura Mercier is really finely milled. It glides onto the skin really nice and smoothly. It is so fine that it is barely noticeable. The MAC on the other hand is a thicker consistency. You can feel the MAC when it is put onto your face, whereas with the Laura Mercier, you cannot.

Now, onto the coverage of these products. The MAC really doesn’t have any coverage to it. It is completely invisible. It mattifies the skin when it is put on, but does nothing else. Even though the Laura Mercier is translucent I find that it blurs the skin. So, any imperfections on the skin seem to really smooth out.

Packaging of both of these products is quite similar. Both are just small plastics tubs with a screw on lid. The MAC does just feel quite cheap and cheerful which I find quite disappointing with this been a pro product and all. But I guess when this is a part of somebody’s professional kit they are not bothered about how the product looks. The Laura Mercier Translucent Powder has much nicer packaging in my opinion.

Now the final point, the price. The MAC Set Powder is £20.50. Which for 30g of product I think it is a really reasonable price. The Laura Mercier is £29 when I bought it from House of Fraser. Even though the Laura Mercier is more money I think that it is worth it because of how much more easily it glides onto the skin and blurs out any imperfections.

So for me the Laura Mercier does top the scales and I will continue to repurchase this. I would love to hear from you if you have tried one or both of these products and I will link to them below…
