OPI Gel Malaga Wine Review

Over the past few months I have been building myself up a little collection of gel nail polishes. In particular I love the OPI ones, the quality of them really are second to none. I have always struggled with nail varnish, not in an application way but it just never stays on my nails, no matter what I do!

I have tried everything from Rimmel to Chanel polishes and I can paint my nails at 3pm, by 4pm they have chipped. So, I ended up not wearing anything on my nails at all and I can remember having a meal with my Nan who is a very honest and down to earth woman, and she just said “Danielle can I please ask why you make such an effort everywhere else but neglect your hands!”

The old woman had a point. I spend lots of money on cloths, my hair and makeup and my nails are sat naked. But I would rather my nails be bare than be chipped, nothing irritates me more than women with chipped nails!

So, I went on Amazon and got myself a little UV lamp along with all the top coats and base coats and I have to say that I am now loving having my nails done. I do have medium length nails which finish just past the tip of my finger. I don’t like anything long and with working on my computer and laptop all day I don’t like to have huge talons because the sound of them tapping on a keyboard really irritate me.

This review is all about the OPI Gel Polish in shade Malaga Wine. This is a deep burgundy colour which I adore for use in the winter. Personally, I’m not a very colourful person, my nails are either bright red, burgundy, black or classic French and that is as adventurous as I get.

So, this Malaga Wine shade is amazing. I used it all winter long and got so many compliments on them. I would apply my primer and base coat and then cure that under the lamp, then in with 3 coats of the colour. This then gives a really true colour.

One thing I have to say about this product that I didn’t expect is that it is more watery than I thought it would be. It might have just been because it was my first time using it and I’m going through trial and error to get used to it. But when I put my hand under the lamp I ended up with it cured around the edge of my thumb!

I guess it was just trial and error to start getting it right, I really did mess up the first few times that I tried to use this to gel my nails. But with practice they are starting to come out really nicely and now I am obsessed with this colour.

I have tried more than just the Malaga Wine shade from the OPI Gels and I absolutely love them all. I cannot recommend them highly enough. I am planning on buying some Gelish shades in the near future just to see how another brand holds up to the OPI gels, so be sure to keep an eye open to see that blog post.
